Hey guys,
Two points
First, regarding the question at hand...
I wish it was possible for the process to go faster, but I'm not in a position to force anybody because - contrary to what other sites are insinuating - I'm not an owner of betED.
All I can do is be a good cheerleader to get things done.
They were real close a few days ago and I'm still not sure what happened there. It might still be happening for all I know.
I will say that while other sites like to pretend that deals like this get done on a minute's notice, that would be how stupid companies make deals of this type and size.
I'm sure there were and are offers, but there is a big difference between an "offer" and a "deal".
If you are a smart buyer, for instance, you would have to consider the size of the user database you are buying. Some sites just are not technologically equipped to support the addition of 5-10,000 users that make three $10 bets per day.
It's a completely different business model from 85% of the books out there, and 95% of the books that are still serving the US market.
You would also have to consider the fact that a certain percentage of your database is probably compromised by DOJ stooges, and what kind of risk does that entail.
Finally, you have to consider what percentage of users are going to stay with you once the rollover is done, and whether these people really are longterm customers. Otherwise, you are just paying off customers and getting nothing in return
So anybody who thinks that something like this can get done in a matter of hours or days, well, they just don't know business.
Now, with respect to rich's question, please see this response I gave in another thread:
I'm not calling everybody liars, but I will say that whoever that article is referencing is 100% lying.
From my standpoint, I seriously doubt any of the betED employees (at least the ones I know) would be stupid enough to make statements like that, because they are so wrong. Which tells me that the guy isn't even a real betED employee and is probably actually somebody with an axe to grind against Covers.
You are exactly right about the question, "what does he have to gain?" I would ask you what he has to lose? He didn't give his name or any kind of facts to support his lie. It was an anonymous email.
