just because AQ is backing the rebels and we are backing the rebels DOES NOT MEAN that we are backing AQ, this is obvious isnt it? A=B and B=c does not mean A=C. You r drawing conclusions based on insufficient evidence...Hell, maybe this allegiance with the rebels will create a dialogue between AQ and the USA based on this common ground.

I get your point but if weve spent 100s of billions of dollars on fighting Al qaeda we shouldnt be funding and arming them even passively. Gadhafi has been saying from the beginning that its Al Qaeda whos been attacking him. So we are actively now giving air support and arms to Al Qaeda. Thats unacceptable in anyway shape or form. If Al Qaeda is really the enemy we would be fighting them not libya.

i think that Aq would argue that if any ruthless dictator was holding Muslims down he needs to be removed, hence they r backing the rebels, USA be damned. They never would have attacked independently themselves, but they are commenting on what is going down on the ground, because the world is curious what they think. Also, where are you hearing anything about us "actively giving arms to AQ" You think we set up a shop selling AK 47&#x27;s? Buy 1 get 1 free.... We are using airstrikes and have provided zero on ground support. If anyone is giving out arms its Gadafi who has openly said he is, but you didnt make that argument.

the libyan resistance isn&#x27;t a monolith, and there are certainly al qaida elements amongst them.  Gaddaffy is a nutfuck who deserves to die ten times over painfully. If the rebels are made up of Al Qaeda even in small amounts which the article is claiming then yes we are actively now funding and supporting our supposed mortal enemies. Not sure how thats weak. Seems a pretty big deal to me after the billions or trillions we spent supposedly fighting these people.

The reason the USA got involved (along with multiple Arab and EU countries) is because Gadafi said he would have no mercy on the rebels and was about to begin his massacre. There is no saying that Gaddafi cant potentially even return to power (which I admit is highly unlikely), but whats going on in Libya is vastly difft from Iraq, which is basically nation building, which at this point looks like IN THE LONG RUN will have been the right thing to do. Its easy to see $$$ and casualties from war and become filled with despair, it brings me to tears sometimes, but whats most important is long term Middle Eastern stability. War is never pretty or easy or uncomplicated.
