if Vegas bothers you...simply go somewhere  else and spend your money..it is what it is, and thats all that it is; take it, our leave...
the guys in this thread sound like a bunch of whinning complainers, looking for thr cheap of the cheap. how in the hell can you take a vacation, with your main objective beiing to hunt like a savage for the cheapest food, the cheapest booze, and the cheapest dumb to sleep in...you call that "a holiday in LV" give Detroit a chance, they have Casinos, and everything else your cheap azz desires....

Not all of us are loaded with money.  After having complementary drinks for decades, I resent the disgusting greed of the current bean counters.

In real life, I only have one beer a week, but I love having a cocktail in the sports books as a part of the boisterous atmosphere.  I certainly don't want to pay $10 for that cocktail.

I reccommend you hang at the Westgate SuperBook, where complimentary drinks always have, and always will be. absolutely no problem...but I thought every sportsbook player in Vegas knew that. how could anyone not resent the greed...they don't miss a fuckin' thing, I can assure you.

I've come to appreciate gift shops and their cheap alcohol,, if much rather spend 3-4 and grab a cold 24oz Corona than wait around for a waitress for God knows how long in a sportsbook,,,, the folks who drop .50 in a slot only to wait 20 minutes for a waitress--then stiff her - - are prob pretty much miserable most of the time anyway watching every fkn penny that passes their way...

I just thoroughly ENJOYED a whole week embelilshing this Sportsbook with unending DRINK tickets...

AND the Locals educated me....

That's not the point. Those of us that remember what it was like years ago just recognize that it's much different now, not just prices but attitude. I'm glad I got to experience it in the past.....had some great times. Back then you didn't have to "hunt" for anything.

Sorry to ruin your ignorance, but the casino hotels in Detroit (MGM, Greektown, MotorCity) are more expensive in most cases to stay at than in Vegas.

To sum up, Vegas was a lot less "corporate" years ago.  The same thing happens everywhere.  Corporations take a good thing and then wring every possible dollar of profit out of it.

Sports used to be good to watch on TV, now there are more commercials and promos than action.

Vegas used to be about cheap and/or free food, drinks and lodging and decent table odds, now it is about charging 20 bucks for 5 aspirin in the hotel lobby store because the nearest convenience store is 20 dollar cab ride there and back.

@ Thorpe & Mugg - agreed the "corporate fukks" have turned the strip into Disneyland. I mean, I miss the old O'Sheas & Imperial Palace and the whole Aria, and Vdara "City Park" thing is a giant money suck. But coming from someone who goes there all the time, if you don't have a good time in Vegas, that's on you.
If you wanna go "high roller" and impress some 21 year old Russian model, they got you covered. If you're looking for "old school" $2 blackjack free buffets and comped drinks - go Fremont St., or Sam's town, or one of the Stations, or Fiesta Rancho. Usually if you get a player's card and book a room there, you'll get a whole bunch of free buffet vouchers, show tickets, etc.
And if you're just a cheap S.O.B. that smokes cigarettes you find on the ground and drinks cocktails people leave behind and you just want to stare at the dolled up "ladies of the evening", you're covered there too.
Really, where else can you go and get so much for so little?

That about covers it....Vegas is what you make of it.....had a pretty good time though. Will definitely be going back....have to check out the Westgate book, never been.

But, man I miss the old O'Sheas...the big sign out front "Beer Beer Beer Fun Fun Fun!" When I was 23ish I got on a hot blackjack table in there....met some gals from the University of Iowa. Absolute blast.

I have not been to Las Vegas since 2010.  The Westgate was then called the Las Vegas Hilton, and they had "Football Sunday" where they opened up their main showroom and showed all of the NFL games on big screens.  I spent every Sunday there once I found out about it.  There were always seats.

Drinks were not free.

The last time I was there, plenty of Strip casinos only paid off blackjacks at 6/5, essentially screwing anybody who wanted to play single- or double-deck blackjack.

I really want to see the new places, but it's like they are putting up a "Do Not Disturb" or "Quarantined" sign.

But don't expect to get the $0.99 shrimp cocktail in the same fu##in' place.....

Do you want a high roller experience or "bum on a budget"?

I almost always hit both the Strip and downtown.

I just expressed an opinion about the casinos getting ever greedier; that doesn't make me an "asshxle."
