Congrats Train. I have two kids under 3. Have 529 plans set up for both of them. Make sure to check the plans for your state that you live in. I would highly recommend setting one up for your kid. Best of luck.

Do what alot of people do....don't work, earn below the poverty line, you will receive thousands back in tax refunds, and your children will go to college for FREE. Get it while it lasts, before we turn into a financial mess like GREECE, France, or Spain. Nm, that is not going to be a very long time. Way to keep voting the incumbents back in office to screw us over again and again.

congrats... welcome to the world of bills!!!! I personally have 2 and mix the whole life with the term... not for college, just to be safe... and the whole life for some xtra money when old!
Anything you do I would just suggest you diversify. You might stick with 1 thing and get lucky, but what if the 1 thing isnt lucky... know what I mean

Thanks for the s'hit on fellas and we are talking about the same thing. Lets say your life with cash.....I say the paid up options for buying the policy full value at a great discount versus payments. I mention that AS SOMETHING TO LOOK AT because he is here asking about other options. I'm such an idiot for suggesting a pick master like train69 look at buying a policy in full. I thought your bankroll is large. Sorry for stepping into a big boy conversation. I just got served.

put away what you can...putting change in a big jar, few dollar bills here and there. Then when your kid gets older make them do chores and get a part time job and put aside a portion of that money for their college payment or atleast for them to have money to spend while at college. I'm sure in 20 years college will be much cheaper. Just a gut feeling. There will be a lot more online options, etc. Or just tell your kid to get a student loan and pay it back later like many do.

You must have grown up like I did. But thats not a good option. Train says he bets $500 a game. If you invest $1000 a month you will be amazed. But degenerate gamblers can't save unless they quit gambling.

Set aside some $$ every month (20-100$) put it in either a 529 plan, which is purchased from Financial advisors (but be wary, because it is a "product") go with a company you have heard of and trust...also checking Ripoff Report for anything (jobs, investments etc) is always a good idea!!
