Betting For a Living

Do any of you do this for a living?  Your main source of income is from betting?  If so, what bankroll did you start with and have you been sucsessful or not?

reason i ask is because of people like Billy Walters... 

Amazing lifestyle he has lived and people probably told him he was nuts when he decided to wager on sports pofessionally.

Probably one in 10,000 people can actually pull it off, maybe less.

We all are, didn't you know?

Just joking, but I don't think it's a lifestyle I would want to live. It would take all of the excitement out of betting sports knowing that your ability to eat, make a home would be dependent on a set of semi random events. Why do you think there are so many touts trying to sell picks? It's because they know they wouldn't be able to keep their lifestyle if not.

vanzack does this for a living (some may not believe this....I do). Read his stuff.  It isn't the glamorous life that many think (if you believe him.....I do).  It's WAY more grinding than your average Joe would think.  It's not sitting down over your morning coffee, making your picks, going 3 out of 5 on the day, and then just screwing around.  

If you're thinking you could potentially do this because you "can pick winners," just forget it.

This.

It's a grind. I've heard some people who do it professionally only sleep like four or five hours a night. Majority of their time awake is spent doing research.

Not everybody who does it is going to live in a mansion and drive around six figure cars, but to make enough to survive and life somewhat comfortably is manageable for the above average handicapper.

I tried playing poker full time for 2 years.

I lost a lot of enjoyment and realized its not what I wanted to do.

It is an emotional rollarcoaster and 10x more a grind than people realize.

I dont think it is that easy, I make some good money betting and playing poker but I dont do it for a living but I do play poker very often. I have won some major events in AC, Vegas etc. I also do have a job. When it comes to betting for me money management is my main goal and I stick to it

100%.  It's not hard to identify the legit folks and the people who are full of B.S. if you pay attention. 

This website is largely entertainment for him IMO.  If he's full of it, he's the best I've seen BY FAR.  The stuff he posts that makes you scratch your head is just him poking fun at the morons.

You're probably right. 

I just remember the App St coach should be fired thread, the Cowboys should have let them score thread. 

I've been off the grid for awhile, but those really stick out in my mind.

Remember when GB let T. Davis score in the Super Bowl?  Right call.  GB had a chance to tie it up and just didn't make the plays. But they didn't waste all the time on the clock, either.   

Van has also been a proponent of kicking the FG even on first down late in the game when you are down by 10-11.  Most team think they have to score a TD and then they have zero time left.

i would've been able to do it this year. most years not so much though. Hard to bet with scared money so if gambling is your job and you rely on winning to pay the bills i feel it makes it much tougher. If you have a second source of income as a safety net i feel you can make much wiser decisions

That has always been my philosophy for years. I've had some very heated discussion with my friends about it, very few seem to agree but I will go to my deathbed knowing that kicking a FG down 10 or 11 when there is a few minutes left in the 4th Q.

Sure, there are times when going for a TD absolutely is the right call. (say you're down 10 with 1.49 left, and complete a 50 yard pass and have 1st and 10 at the 15 yardline) Go for the TD. However most times this isn't the case.

Down 11, with 1:19 and the ball at the 30 yardline should be an automatic fieldgoal, hands down....Unless your kicker is Billy Cundiff
