Ho shat! The kid survived flying across the Pacific in a wheel well.

I was smart enough at 16 to know that you're dealing with frigid temps and lack of oxygen when flying at those altitudes.  

Although I wasn't smart enough to be able to get by airport security.  

The fact that it happens somewhat often is kind of frightening.

I know you're being sarcastic, but you don't think the airlines should have checked? Just pure negligence, what if he was a terrorist? That's what made the Malaysia plane go down.

I absolutely agree that heads should roll. This is not in any way, shape or form acceptable. There needs to be an investigation into exactly what needs to be done to prevent this from reoccurring. I just do not believe this should be the equivalent of winning the Mega Millions lottery.

I am all for the airlines and government footing the bill for getting the family to the teen. I am all for the medical bills being covered by the airlines and government. I am all for the airlines and government paying for the teen and family being returned to their home where this started. The teen and family should not suffer financially for this happening.

I am against this being a money maker. The last thing I want is this to be encouraged, and becoming a millionaire is encouragement to take shot at winning the lottery...

Agreed.  No idea either.  The story goes that he passed out due to lack of oxygen almost immediately but was revived as they got closer to land.  WOW!

I was joking for the most part. I don't think the boy should get anything out of it at all. He's 16 he knows what is right and wrong, but I do think the airline should pay to ensure this doesn't happen again. Crazy story for sure.

I think they first have to find out where the breakdown was that allowed this person to get in the spot he did.  I worked at the airport humping freight during grad school.  It's not that easy to jump on a tire and into a wheel well (and that was 20+ years ago when security was lax) without being noticed.  Lots of stuff going on....baggage handlers loading up......food service people doing their business. 

I would recognize a person who just walked out on the tarmac without a uniform to be honest.  And there is no way IMO that he got on the plane and somehow got down there.  Not possible (this isn't "Catch Me If You Can").  

But what a moron.  You realize how many moving parts there are when it comes to landing gear on a jet like that?  Not to mention the cold temps and the lack of oxygen.

That being said, His parents and school should be ashamed.  The kid did not have the basic knowledge to know that he is basically committing suicide.

This incident will lead to copycats or even terrorists now have a way to sneak a suicide bomber into a plane.  Scary situation indeed!

Not to mention 50 degrees below zero.

I know that Crocs can slow their heart rate to 5-6 beats per minute but wtf?

He passed out which probably was a good thing and his body went into protective mode. The human body is amazing.

Very true. Went hypothermic, passed out, metabolism slowed to a snails pace along with respiration. 78% Nitrogen 21% oxygen 1% other gases is what we breath every day. He inhaled a little of each to stay alive because he's young with a strong cardiovascular system.

My guess anyway.

I'd like to see how big a wheel well really is. Do you have to curl up like a ball?   I hope this kid explains what he remembers. I'm willing to bet though he lost some  DNA cells on that flight.

Hopefully he did not lose too many DNA cells... Those are really hard to replace.

He'll be held as a 5150 suicide at the hospital.....then longer after that in a mental ward for a long time... Judge will be incredibly angry.

Climbing a fence, entering FAA restricted area, boarding an aircraft illegaly,

No charges.

 This kid (16) should and will be locked up for a good while. Fuk him, he put lives in danger. Media is funny with the great survival ending - DA will charge him full tilt, just watch.

Federal offense.

I doubt they will go hard at him... too mig of a story and bad PR... DA's and Judges don't want that press.

But I agree they should go hard after him... cannot afford to not make an example of this guy.

767 is a rather large plane....wheel wells are huge.  

I'll be honest, I drive by the MSP airport quite often and there is a TON of ground to cover security wise on the perimeter.  I've always wondered how they do that.  It's one thing to prevent a person from getting by security while IN the airport.  But as far as getting on the grounds from outside, I don't know how they cover all that.

And granted it was a Hawaiian Airlines plane so I guess he could have assumed it was going to Hawaii.  But he couldn't have been sure.
