His pop up shows are hit or miss. I'm in the industry and have seen him many times. Sometimes the pop ups are gold. Sometimes he's put there for too long, often drunk, and the set just falls off. Like any comedian, it's more workshopping. They have sets where they're working out jokes and bits and it's almost like rehearsal but because it's Dave, everyone expects everything to be comedic gold. I thought his last special was kinda trash, having seen him work out many of the jokes in pop up shows. It's hard to stay on top as a comedian. You plateau, and then there's no where to go but down. He's smart in that he sticks and moves, does pop up shows, and still theatres. It alleviates the pressure of constant arena touring. Comedy is a fickle trade. Sebastian Maniscalco has been one of the highest grossing comedian for several years running. Is he funny? Couldn't tell ya. Never seen even one of his jokes. Nate Bargatze is one the highest as well, and I think was highest this year. I literally had never heard of him until he hosted SNL for the first time.

A note on SNL. Daves opening monologue was fantastic. The episode was pretty whack. Most episodes are pretty subpar. Nate Bargatze's episodes have been funny. Shane Gillis had a really funny episode. They really missed out firing him but it was the best thing that could've happened to him.

agree that they all deserve some attention. and if someone is better than dave chappelle i'd like to see it. who is in your opinion someone to watch in the industry? remember that dave also made a movie, and if he made another movie today it would likely help him surpass and lead the industry in money earned. just by his name brand alone that would set him apart.

Saw Chappelle down here about 8 years ago & was disappointed he only did 90 minutes & agree some of his stories are too long. So in a 90 minute gig, you'll get 8 or 9 stories but he left me wanting more which is what a good performer does.
