I hope she gets all or most off the money. The pervert idiot received assistance from Hotel employees to get the room next to her. They owe big bucks. So if that happened to your sister or wife that would be okay with you?
Absolutely agree...........a voice of reason among many that lack a clue.

This incident really traumatized her. I don't think she was making it up when she said she was mortified and scared by the incident.
The creeper who did this probably doesn't have any daughters, sisters or a wife. Complete scumbag and Erin should be compensated by the hotel for their incompetency. Ba'lee dat!
Very well said.
Who cares what she rates on a scale of 1-10 ? Would people criticize her if she was in a wheelchair ? The hotel was clearly negligent. No one disputes that she was unaware of this. It is stupidly misguided to give her a hard time because you don't like her looks.
Thanks to Slobb for getting this right.

I don't think anyone is disputing she was wronged.
The question
is how much to blame is the hotel chain? The stalker will never come
close to paying even a little bit of that, so basically the hotel is the
one being punished. I think the backlash is the outrageous amount she
is being awarded when fuking wrongful death suits don't get that much. A
crazy, determined stalker who had filmed her at other hotels before,
stopped at nothing to get what he wanted. From what I've read no
employee just said, 'oh I don't give a fuk, yeah take the room next to
Erin Andrews'.
Have you ever gotten a call in your hotel room
from a friend or family member who was connected through the front
desk? Have you ever requested a certain room or not liked the one you
had and switched?
It's unreasonable IMO to expect hotel employees
(whose most important job is to make visitors happy and attend to their
needs) to foresee some guy calling from a house phone to be able to
figure out what room she's in so he can get in the room next to her and
cut out and alter the peephole while no one is looking so as to film her
naked when he heard her get out of the shower.
It seems like she just wants someone to pay for what happened to her even though the guy who did it can't.
Who's fault is it when a peeping Tom looks in your daughter's bedroom window? Is it your fault for not having attack dogs, electric fencing, barbed wire on the balcony, and bars on the windows? Or is it the sick crazy fuk who did it and all you can do is make sure he's punished and won't do it again?

Aw, c'mon now. There is a reason they have hotel security. By definition, it failed here---miserably. And, did you see the Marriott's legal defense ? Part of it was that she got lucky when this happened because more people knew about her after she was violated. They should be fined an additional ten million for stupidity.

I'm pretty sure that was a rebuttal to the prosecution justifying a 55 million dollar lawsuit by saying the video destroyed or damaged her career. Seriously doubt the defense just came out and said "She shouldn't be suing us, she should be thanking us!"

Big Bucks !
Soldiers who lost limbs in combat or people left paralysed by drunk drivers wouldn't even get a fraction of $55 million

Women are beaten, raped, battered, shot, stabbed, punched, kicked........
They receive nothing in compensation other than possible justice.. What makes Erin fuking Andrews so special to be awarded millions? The stalker was going to succeed under any hotel staff anyway -
she just has network media lawyers..
She's after the cash and not real justice for all women that are real victims..
Aka narcycist.

Whadda a fukin drama queen. "I have to cover the peephole (sniffle sniffle)"
I swear it irritates me how every man has to suck it up and get on with life after something happens but so many chicks will milk one incident or set of incidents and act like a nut for the rest of their life and sometimes get 55 million awarded to them from a scapegoat hotel

This is what so many people seem to be ignoring. In fact, he said he already had succeeded in other hotels. I guess he just didn't get the right footage for a video to post from those instances.

What can I say? You are wrong
It was PROVEN in a court of law that the hotel was negligent. Their employees did NOT provide protocol and assisted the perv. Hotel security is very important, if it were not you would have politicians and celebrities harassed and murdered all the time.
Erin was definitely a celebrity at the time, thus the obsession. They f'd up and they need to pay a large penalty as a DETERRENCE to the entire industry. It is a shot across the bow to remind hotels this is serious business. If you ever studied law, you would know that the penalty phase must be painful for the defendant - that is why the penalty is such. It has nothing to do with what they think Ms Andrews deserves - two different awards.

The difference isn't what happened to her, it is who was found responsible and how deep their pockets are.
Most women that are raped and beaten, the perpetrator has no money and there is no point to sue them.
If a billionaire raped and beat a woman, the woman would get a lot of money (but we probably wouldn't hear about it because they'd likely settle out of court with a non-disclosure agreement )
Also, after the hotel appeals, it will be more like a few million than 55 million I'm sure. The appeals court won't be swayed by her tears like the jury was.

Maybe I am wrong. Come on though, a jury found them guilty, PROVEN is a very strong word. Politicians and most celebrities have their own security and/or use protocols for their own protection. From the info that has been released, she did no such thing and the hotel was not informed of possible stalkers, whether or not Erin knew of him.
A very important detail to this case is that this same guy not only video taped Erin at other hotels, he video taped 10 other women in the same manner at various hotels. So I guess that means the whole hotel industry is negligent and they should consider having women only floors like has been suggested?
You say they did not provide protocol and assisted the perv. I can't find a straight answer how they did this. If the desk was asked by this guy, "Hey I would like the room next to Erin Andrews," well then yeah they screwed up. All I keep seeing though is vague references to negligent behavior, and statements saying he was allowed to have the room next to her, but not what he said to get it.

You have to understand how some one like sportsfan thinks with no concept of personal responsibility or accountability. Always the victim, always someone's fault.
It's probably hard being so insecure which he then overcompensates for ignorance by acting like he is an authority.

A Florida jury today ordered Gawker Media to pay $115 million for publishing a sex tape showing Terry Bollea, also known as Hulk Hogan, having sex with his friend's wife.

I don't understand the hate. Hotel chain was clearly negligent and she was clearly violated, which part of that do you disagree with? Oh, it is such a travesty and a terrible shame that she gets $55 Million AND she's pretty, meanwhile you guys work so hard capping NBA games and get nothing. If it makes you feel better, she'll probably only keep $5-10 Million of that herself. And then she should be expected to give at least half of that to all rape victims around the world, because that has so much to do with the case at hand, right?... yall are fukt. Get a clue.

Dear God, someone who honestly gets it.
As to your 2nd paragraph, real quick:
Many years ago a partnership called All Pro Sports sued Disney for violation of intellectual property regarding their ESPN Wide World of Sports facility.
A jury awarded the plaintiffs $240 million. After Disney appealed to the next judicial district on the ladder of importance, the plaintiffs agreed to a settlement of $10 million. It is assumed the partners received $3.5 million each while Willie Gary's law firm kept the balance of about $3 million.
Willie's law firm continues to advertise this case as a $240 million dollar windfall for his clients. The truth is that the all parties received less than 5% of the original judgement.
