It all started with some back pain I had and went to ortho who ordered at CT Lumbar spine. Things were acutally ok as was just a sprain with lower back but in the process radiologist noted vascular calcifications on abdominal aorta. Dr. then sent me for CT Calcium score and low and behold I have a significant amount of plaque on my LAD. I had a stress echocardiogram less than a year before that was normal so this came as a surprse to me indeed. Dr. put me on lipitor and told me to take a low dose aspirin daily. Cardiologist then said that he believes plaque is in artery wall and that's why my stress test normal. Alot for me to wrap my head around but did order of chelation (b.s. many say but tried anyway). Switched diet to cut out all dairy and meat except for some seafood 1-2 times a week. LDL was 108 and now 56, cholesterol went to 103 and triglycerides to 43. Also taking D3, K2, COQ10, and Magnesium Taurate. My focus is now on reversing this plaque/coronary artery disease. Read Dr Esselstyns book prevent and reverse heart disease which is basically going vegan ++ (cutting out oil as well) and sometimes with low dose statin. It's very hard long story short to follow this diet. There is a newer drug on the market called repatha $$$$ and when combined with statin in clinical trails showed plaque reversal in 2016-17 clinical trials. Anyway, was wondering if anyone else had experience with this and what you have done to help, etc.?
Thanks in advance to all!

Reading this I somehow picture you now happily going to carnivals, making rocking horses for your grand children and living life like a scene out of a brilinta commercial.

two questions. He did run a CCS? Do ya drink alcohol more than enough?Your Tris are not that bad.Stop drinking all of that if yes. Everything reverses. You'll be alright buddy. docs never give us anything good over 50.
Hi Search and thank you for replying brother! Yup I'm 50 on the head and god knows I've had my share
of rich and fatty food and las vegas buffers! I reduced my weight as well from 245 to 225; I'm 6'5 and muscular, now a bit less but lean, oh well less stress on the heart!
You were one of the people I was hoping to get commentary from.
I drink 2 drinks a week maximum right now for last few months, hardly anything but it's fine
What is a CCS?
Thank You!

Sorry Search, I think you mean Coronary Calcium Score, yes I did and that's where they say the plaque.
Also, I am taking Haritaki and vitamin B12 and exercise 5 days a week at least 20 minutes on stairmaster and some weights.

CCS. your doc should definitely order that if he hasn't already. most insurance doesn't cover it but it's only about 140 bucks. My numbers are terrible as well. Just get used to eating bland lean food and peel off 20 pounds. Do you have BPressure issues as well?
Search no blood pressure issues. It's normal to maybe borderline normal at the highest sometimes.
Do you take statin Search? Any other meds, Prescription or Vitamins, etc?

Get off Lipitor and any other pharma drugs immediately, look for ways to accomplish what you want without needing those. Read up on the risks and issues with Lipitor and find natural supplements to help. Doctors make money off putting you ON scripts and from running tests, I tend to try and avoid any and all scripts and find alternate solutions.
Also, increase your heart rate through daily exercise, that means the strenuous kind that puts your HR over 120 and do this for as long as you can and develop your heart and muscles by increasing until you can go for an hour plus. Nothing like diet and high intensity exercise to heal the body. If running is tough, try a good elliptical first but something that gets the HR into cardio and peak zone.

Packers,
Thank you for information here! The FLW sounds like a chelation which I am actually a proponent of and did a cycle of angioprim for 6 weeks. Due to the cost of FLW imaging it is meant to be taken for a month or 2, is Is that right? Thank You!

Wall,
I don't disagree with you but its a lot of plaque in the 1 artery and it scary! The cardiologist initially gave me 20 mg of Lipitor and after my Lipid panel came back very good I cut the Lipitor to 10 mg without asking dr.. My liver enzymes doubled, (where in the very low 20's so even 40 is within range). I plan to kick Lipitor soon enough but my thought was to do some meds, lifestyle change, supplementation and then redo test in 1-2 years. I have done ALOT of research here and it is reversible but tough! Repatha and Lipitor 2016-17 trials showed plaque reversal. Repatha is $$$ and side effects of course. I plan to do low dose Lipitor, intense supplementation, nearly plant based diet (fish 2x week), and intense exercise. I do stairmaster and it's harder than hell, (pulse goes up over 120). Barely caught my breath this am after it.
As a side note this is my second account and been with covers since it started. I love all you guys, I truly do!! Thank you soooo much for the great advice and keep it coming brothers!

I'll add my two cents. Pharma drugs are not supposed to be the end-all to your cholesterol problems. They should work together with your diet and exercise. I take Pravastatin because these types of drugs are designed to BOTH lower the LDL and raise the HDL. For me at my age the benefits far outweigh the side effects. As always everybody is different and to each his/her own.

Its not cheap, but you really should think about investing in 3 months worth, 10 tablets per day split 5 with breakfast and 5 with dinner for 90 days...moving forward 2 a day is great for maintenance.

Packers, O.K., I will look into more and see if I could grab some. Have you or anyone you knew taken it? If so what did you or other person notice?
Thank you!

Goose,
TY for weighing in brother, and Ditto x 10 what you are saying!! Ever try Lipitor or they put you right on pravastatin? Reason I say is because Lipitor supposed to be the very best for the small density LDL's, (which are the ones most apt to form plaque).

If memory serves correctly Lipitor was crazy expensive and my Doc scripted the Pravastin for that reason.

I strongly agree with all of this but respect those that do go with medication. Sometimes it's really needed.
I watch these pharma rep bimbos walk in an out of the Dr's office while I'm waiting for my appointment and listen in on their conversations. These people are intense drug runners for the big cartel pharmas with their "free samples." Makes me truly ill.

Initially in this Thread Ron and Rickey talked about screenings / testings. Let me expound upon those statements and their importance. Anyone who is over age 50 and wants to be proactive about specifically reducing risk of stroke should consider having five vital screenings. Your doctor can order these screenings but they will normally NOT be covered by most insurance unless you are currently being treated for symptoms. If you are serious about preventing a stroke PONY UP and pay out of pocket to get these tests!!!!!
1)Carotid Artery Screening (Plaque) An ultrasound evaluation of the carotid arteries to identify buildup of fatty plaque - a leading cause of strokes.
2)Heart Rhythm Screening (Atrial Fibrillation) EKG electrodes placed on the arms and legs to identify the presence or absence of an irregular heartbeat. Atrial Fibrillation can increase the risk of stroke by five times.
3)Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening An ultrasound screen to detect the presence of an aneurysm (enlargement) in the abdominal aorta that could lead to a ruptured aorta.
4)Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening Evaluates for peripheral arterial disease (plaque buildup) in the lower extremities. People with PAD are at a higher risk of heart attack or stroke according to the American Heart Association.
5)Osteoporosis Risk Assessment An ultrasound measurement of the shin bone to determine abnormal bone mass density. Osteoporosis is painless and silent in it's early stages.
I am personally having these five tests done on Monday August 30th at a community center right here in my town. The cost is only $150 and it's expected to take an hour to an hour and a half. Check to see what health screenings are available in your own area. No joke - It could save your life!!!!!
