For the first time ever in my life I walked away without leaving a tip.
It's 11pm and I'm at the Foxwoods Casino Newport Club. It's a little buffet lounge where players are comped and you enter for free. Once you enter you choose your own seat. I wanted the back corner table because it was a solo casino run, I'm alone, and I just wanted to be out of the way.
When I walked in I noticed the cocktail waitress was standing next to the table I wanted. She was in discussion with a customer so I decided to cruise the buffet first to see what I'd eat before ordering a drink. I come back a couple minutes later to take my seat.
The waitress is still in discussion with the other customer, clearly just BSing, so I politely said, "Excuse me, I'll sit here and can I please order a drink?"
She immediately gets this nasty look on her face and says, "As soon as I'm finished with my customer I'll come get your drink order". Whoa, I'm thinking, this is one waitress with an attitude!!!
Sit down, get on my cell phone, and calmly wait for a few minutes. Eventually she strolls over and says, "OK, what can I get you?". I said, "I'll have a Jameson and Ginger Ale please".
Go up to the buffet, taking my time, grab some cocktail shrimp and some beef brisket and go back to my table. Now, there is no silverware available, and that's fine with me because I don't want to grab a fork out of a bin where everybody else has put their hands. The waitress is supposed to bring you silverware wrapped in a napkin.
Get back to my table, no drink and no silverware. So I get on my phone again for about five minutes. Waitress finally comes back with my Jameson and Ginger Ale, with no ice??? She see's the expression on my face and says, "You said straight up, right, with no ice?" I said, "No I didn't but that's OK, just bring me a tall glass of ice please and some silverware". "Oh", she says, "you don't have any silverware. I'll be right back with that".
Another five minutes goes by and she finally returns with my ice and silverware. Great, now I can eat my COLD beef brisket and enjoy some cocktail shrimp.
Finished with my first drink and want to order a second. But this waitress is busy cleaning other tables. Keep waiting for her to look in my direction so I can signal her for another drink. I'm certainly not going to shout across the room. She never once looks in my direction. Not once.
So I just decide to leave. As I'm standing up she comes over and says, "Oh, you're leaving already?" And I said, "Well I wanted a second drink but since you're ignoring me I guess I'll just leave". Well, that really pushed her buttons and she says, "Hey buddy, I'm going to talk to the manager about your attitude". REALLY???
I go to the entrance and meet the maitre d', where she is whining, and inform him that "I have been coming here for over 25 years and this waitress just gave me the absolute WORST service ever".
She says, "Well, I have been here for 9 hours and I have to get the tables cleaned and prepare for tomorrow and do this and do that..." So I cut her off and say, "Hey, that's NOT my problem. I deserve the same service as your first customer of the day. You are the WORST waitress I have ever seen. You are TERRIBLE. If I wanted to be ignored I could have stayed home! You get no tip. Zero. Nothing." And I left.

Rude is rude. She deserved nothing cause she spoiled your evening. Seems the first rule is if you are in hospitality industry is your working cause of the customer. Not the customer is dining cause the waitress was present.

Yes. Played golf and then drank for 3-4 hours after. Went to a bar/pizza place on the way home. I walk in about 45 minutes before closing. The bartender give me the look like ' I dare you come in now'. I want to clock out and go home. I order a Sam and a small pizza. I finish the pizza and the beer. I ask for the check. I thought bill was a little high. About $13 for the small pizza. I ask my favorite bartender with the dirty look how much is the large pizza. The large was $14. I hate stuff like this. I asked her why did you not tell me for only 1 dollar more that I could have had a large pizza? She does not answer. I lose my temper. F bombs for about 5 minutes. They threaten to call the police. They do not call the cops. I walk out without leaving a tip. I have not been back. The sad part is the place is a good restaurant.

Customer service is all about pride in providing it..if you don't have it, look for a different vocation..it's not for everybody... I enjoy giving great service everytime because of the exact type of person you describe above.... And most people appreciate that BUT....you still have some hypercritical back stabbing customers no matter what....
The motta I live by is "You can't please ALL the people all the time but ideally you please the majority of the people the majority of the time.." EVERYONE discriminates in their own unique way, especially subliminally..You don't even realize it sometimes but we are all raised totally differently with different ethnic backgrounds, families (and our screwed up baggage from our ancestors) and unfortunately, most importantly, economic situations. When someone is rude, it's obvious they were raised with that type of behavior as an example and acceptable to act like that. So sad, but we are all a product of how we are raised.
I don't think I've ever totally stiffed someone but I've left a 5/10% if the service really sucked. As for your case..it sounds like it was warranted. But I will NEVER give them the satisfaction of letting them get me so pissed I drop F-bombs..some people want to get you that teed off...I've learned to be patient knowing some PEOPLE just SUCK!!! They are MISERABLE...Remember misery always loves company

I agree 100% crusher. Maybe the bartender does better the next time and tells the customer that a large is only $1 more. Here's what I do. I am in the insurance industry. Quick example. I tell the client or prospect that for only $1 a month more you can increase your property damage from $50,000 to $100,000 on your auto policy. Or. For an extra $4 dollars a year you can increase your liability coverage on your renter's policy from $100,000 to $300,000. So. I know how I inform people regarding value. I did not get that from the bartender near closing time that night and I lost my temper.

Funny....you consider you stiffed a waitress because you left NO TIP but unless it is included in the bill,a tip is earned not obliged.
In our state I think wait service that might be tipped still have to be paid a minimum of 10.50 an hour and the case of many places that serve food is that the service staff pool the tips and split the shift.
All in all I don't know how big a Lesson you taught this one.

Let's correct the record bws. My point is the bartender should have told me that the large pizza is only $1 more.
2nd correction. I don't donate to Alex Jones. I buy his great supplements. Right now I only donate to Roger Stone. Small donations to help him put food on the table and to help Roger defeat the treasonous Deep State.

Mitch: You've been with me inside the Newport Club Even though it's a buffet, you get up and help yourself, I still drop $10 on the table for the waitress, right?. As for playing Baccarat, I've had better trips for sure. Bottom line I dropped $3K. At one time I was down well over $5K but I made a serious comeback rally. So I'm happy to end that trip on a great note and I'll just get them next time.

I'll continue to tip, and tip well, because I know being a waitress is not an easy job. I appreciate them as a whole... It's too bad there's always one or two bad apples in the bunch.

Stone will soon be joining Manafort & they're both going to die in jail-which is exactly what they both deserve.

Yep......having been a busboy & a waiter in some higher end restaurants back in the day, I know what good service & bad service is. I'll never ding a person if the effort is there, & I won't blame them for poor food......provided it's delivered fresh/warm. But there's no excuse for being lazy or inattentive.......or both.
Last summer a group of us went to a concert (Roger Hodgson) at a casino, & decided to go up early for dinner/drinks. It was a Saturday so the casino was packed. The only way we could get a table for eight was to get "private room service" in one of the restaurants in the casino...........min tab $300/auto 18% gratuity. OK, fine, let's do it.
So we get in, get some water.........then nothing. I go out & flag someone down, "hey we'd like to order some drinks" .......about 5 mins later someone comes in & takes our drink orders.........15 mins go by & nothing...... I go out to investigate........can't even find the guy that took our drink orders. So I go up to the host/manager/maitre'd & explain to him that, while we appreciate the fact that we got a table for all of us when it's this busy, we're having a hard time spending any money as no one has brought us a thing, & that we're not going to auto drop a 20% tip for crap service. To his credit, he was on it. From then on, we had two people working our room (one was him).
We ended up with about a $700 bill & tipped well over the 18% ........ ended up being a fun night.

Chewed and screwed at the Piccadilly pub when I was like 16. Just ran like hell into the woods behind the old triboro movie theatre. Man I still kinda feel bad about it to this day.
