Help on thesis for essay

I'm writing about how the greeks have influenced on the western culture and im having a hard time coming up with a thesis statement. Maybe because its been like 10 years since I had to write an essay I know they had many influences from art,music,math,language,architecture,food,sports and my main subj i will be discussing will be on architecture,food and sports. I really appreciate if anyone can help me out

Greek Influence on Western Culture

The Greek civilization contributed greatly to the development of modern Western culture.

It had a heavy influence on the English speaking civilzation of the West. Like English, Greek was Phonetic, and, was the first lanuage to use vowels. Greeks diverse vocabulary also influenced and contributed to modern English. Thirteen point two percent of modern day English is derived from the vocabulary of ancient Greece.

Ancient Greece is the root for the introduction of a multicultral society and creation in Political science of democracy and republics.

Greek culture laid the foundations for the Roman Empire. Traditional Western culture is created by the three historical factors; ancient Greece, the Roman Empire and Christianity.

Greek Architecture Influence

The achievements of ancient Greek architecture influenced Western cultutre with their column designs knowns as Doric, Ionic and Corinthian styles.

Doric: Cylindrical in shape, Doric Columns sit without a base. Shallow grooves channel through the shaft and end with a square, uncluttered capital on top. Simplicity is the Doric column's literal and figurative strength.

Ionic: Topping the Ionic column is a capital consisting of a rectangular plate. Coiling, scroll like spirals called volutes fit at each end of the capital. The Ionic column is taller and more slender than the Doric. Ionic columns adorn the Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C.

Corinthian: Is the most elaborate look of the three classic columns. Shaped like an upside down bell, the capital has overlapping rows of acanthus leaves rising up the sides. Corinthium columns hold up the Louvre Museum of Paris.

Greek architecture has been has been a major influence on modern western architecture up to today. The Capitol building and other structures in Washington D.C., stadiums, temple like churches and many homes from the 1800's have bearded resemblances to Greek architecture style. Greek architecture in the western culture is a symbol of of classical elegance and western strength.

Images of ancient gods, muses and archetypes representing wind direction or nature spirits have been used to decorate various Western buildings. Selected religious imagery has been used to ward off evil, add stylistic decoration and adornment to buildings and to create a sense of wonder.

Greek gods and imagery were revived for their artistic sensibility and benchmark of a civilized Western world during the Neo-Classical revival in American architecture during the 1800's. The World's Fair of 1934 modeled many of its temporary structures on gypsum in its White City after Greek buildings. The former Palace of Arts building constructed in Chicago for the World's Fair in 1893 was modeled after Greek buildings and is presently the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago Illinois. The museum today still stands with Greek gods on the outside building, three pavillion and Ionic columns supporting the exterior walls and entrance.

Greek Sporting Influence

The most signifigant influence on the sport of modern Western culture are the Olympic games. The earliest records indicate they began in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece. They were played in honor of their prime Greek god Zeus, held every four years in Olympia. The athletes competed naked and the games initially only lasted one day, but grew to five days.

The Ancient Olympics held numerous events that feature in the modern games such as javelin throw, discus, boxing, wrestling and running. They also introduced penalties for athletes who were caught cheating in any events.

The most recognised Western sporting label 'Nike' is linked with ancient Greece. The label that has been worn by more gold medal winners than any rival brand in the modern Olympics, takes its name from Nike, who was a Greek mythology goddess who personified victory, also known as the wing goddess of victory. Hence why Nike promotion advertising feature their sponsored athletes with wings that are used on apparel such as the "Nike Force" model edition along with the 'Swoosh' logo.

The Greek military state of Sparta has influenced Western culture sport. The Spartan warriors name is a symbol of excellence and is the title of gyms, body building protein products and collegiate sporting teams of  Michigan State.

Greek Food Influence

Traditional Greek food is based on a Mediterranean cuisine. Greek cruisine is the source for an original European cruisine, though while it should not be underestimated, it would not be the only font of mediterranean cruisine to have influenced the modern Western culture. As while one may believe the boundary between Greek and Turkish food to be clear, it isnt the case. Greece was apart of the Ottoman Empire for a considerable time and was under the scrouge of the Catalans who set up a dynasty and the Florentines in the late 14th to early 15th century that would have impacted greatly on Greek crusine.

In ancient Greece while most of the known world were preparing roasted meat, the Greeks were savoring with a variety of fruits and seafoods, experimenting with cooked mixtures of meat and vegetables developing sauces and dressings and blending seasonings. The Greeks were also writing cookbooks during this period. Though alot of the Greek cruisine became an art of the past as it was so successfully adapted, transformed and renamed mostly by the Turk's and Italians that its Greek origins have been forgotten.

There is heavy Greek influence in western culture food preperation in soup, meat and seafood dishes. Even one of the more mainstream western culture 'Sunday' dishes of oven baked lamb and potatoes traces to Greek origins. And the many common salads are Greek orientated.

Greek deserts are a popular modern Western food. Though since the culture absorbed so much influence of its own that it shares common roots with surrounding mediterranean neighbours with the use of olives, dips and cheeses. Its greatest individual influence may be to the fast food industry. Traditional Greeks foods like Souvlaki, gyros, pita - Tyropita, Spanakopita (Cheese & spinach pie) are all common fast food menu options across America and the Western world.

The marriage of government and religion in the sister states of Greece led to a milinia of prosperity.  The languages in Hebrew Egyptian Sanskrit and sumaria was translated in Greek at library in Alexandra as most ancient texts.

The nation has had humans home erectus and Neanderthal for nearly 50 k years. As it comes to advancements in metallurgy from the Neolithic age to the bronze age and furthur as it has claimed to the only hydroaxe to more efficiently create steel weopons and shields.

With the works of sophicles,  Plato and other mystics the open mind to new things Greece achieved a spectacular setting

Even under occupation of time and the Othman empires in post Christ ages. 

Greeks in summation created peace,  cultured learning centers and amazing architectures as a permanent mark in the modern world.

How about a paper on how Michigan State students protect their beloved Spartan statue before every Michigan football.

What they protect is the legacy of a military society where the average Spartan family had seven slaves. Spartans would often execute their slaves over fears of rebellion.
