Pretty impressive man. Some people would say he had a tremendous impact on peoples lives and on the world..... I would agree however not to the point of camping out and holding a candle in one hand an flowers in the other.

For what it's worth, I know where you're coming from. Surely he was a man that accomplished a lot, but to show up with flowers when you didn't even know him... it's just a bit overboard. Get a grip. It's just too much.

I agree for the most part. But the devils advocate in me says that this man came up with some things that truely changed that way we do things. From listening to music, communicating to people, doing work etc...
He was a bright mind that did some things that were incredibly impactful to a SHIT LOAD of people.
Plus when you hear records of his commencment speach at Stanford (even though it is clearly only becoming public now because of is death) it is very insightful.

but in saying what I said in the post above -- I can also see the point of view of that you arre saying "why is this such a big deal". Kind of like the musician who dies and then all of a sudden becomes a global icon (i.e. kurt kobain, Jim Morrison).

We live in an age where people feel strong connections with people they don't know personally, yet have little connection with the neighbor next door.
Expressing those deep, positive feelings is not a bad thing. Steve Jobs probably had more impact on their life than the neighbor. Also, those people become connected to each other through the expression of their shared grief. And connecting people in new ways was one of the results of Jobs' life work.

He was an iconic figure.
If you don't personally know 'em - doesn't matter. Iconic figures always get treated the same when they pass on...

Give me a pen & a pad & I'll trounce.
Rest in Peace Steve.
