I need gift ideas please...

Have you ever gotten or given a gift that was just perfect?  Well, I am looking for the perfect gift for my father-in-law for his 60th birthday.  He is a very kind and generous man so I would like it to be cool, fun, interesting, and/or thoughtful...something he would love to show off.  He is a conservative Republican type but with a fun side and a sense of humor (I know, oxymoron). My limit is about $500 dollars (may be able to pool about $2k with other family but prefer not to).

 

Some other things about him:

 

==He is a dentist, married, two grown kids, two grandkids.

== Enjoys sports, but not a gambler.  Loves USC football but I have given USC stuff in the past.  Looking for a more unique idea.

==Loves to travel.

==Enjoys fine wine/dining.

==Loves electronics, gadgets, computers, etc. Anything that makes life easier, more enjoyable. For example, he loves his Garmin map/location finder for his car.

==Has a great home theater with all the gadgets (blu ray disc, digital remote, etc).  Maybe you know of something he might not have.

you need to set up a budget price that you want to spend first

get him a nice weekend stay for him and his wife (your mother in law) at a local bed /beakfast and a tour/dinner at a winery ..

 

For example, in Virginia, the Inn at Little Washington  fits this bill..

60 is a milestone so you want to give him something he'll remember.  the idea of a weekend at a b&b with a couple of winery tours is a great idea.

Get him a nice pistol.

A quarter of hash should do the trick 

 

No but in all seriousness the bed and breakfast idea is a great one, but maybe a golf getaway weekend would be even better, oh and some Titleist Pro V 1's

Is it just me, or does anyone else think $500 is insane for your father-in-law's birthday??  That's crazy. 

 

I don't spend that kind of money on my own father's birthday (Christmas.....maybe). I call my Dad on his birthday and occasionally send him a card, that's it.
