Some of the guys I know who have won seats from similar smaller casinos dont allow you to sell your seat (basically if you dont show they dont pay). They will give you a voucher and you go register for the tourney. Its not like your name will be on the list prior or anything. I am not a professional by any means but after earning a bachelor in statistics, I got to researching the game of poker and have been playing for several years. So I have some tidbits of advice. I like the excitement of tournaments and take time off during the summer to go to Vegas just like majority of the nonprofessionals who play in these event. I have not had any significant cashes (two min cashes and two cashes spots above min cash), but know how to approach these smaller events. This year I plan on changing my previous year's strategy and playing for it all. Here is my take on these small $1k tourney's...
the first couple tournies are smaller fields, the real pros are just arriving, or have arrived and hung over from partying the days before. So in the early 1k events you wont see many of the big name pros playing...just the online kids or the regular joe types. However some of these online/ or tourney circuit pros will play in these 1k tournies for the sole purpose of earning wsop poy points and trying to get a bracelet. They could be playing in these events to get warmed up and ready for the $5k and $10k events later. You have to get a feel for who is at your table and know who is who (this will determine their playing style vs you). You need to know are they in this tourney to make a profit (are they waiting for the others at table to bust before playing a lot of hands or are they involved in a lot of pots). There are some there who will gamble with any two cards and are there to just play...ready to get a lot of chips quickly and if not move to the next tourney. Your objective is to obviously take advantage of every opportunity you can exploit....on to my next point...

By the way, a buddy of mine played a similar even last year. He said you have to pay attention as the people who think they can win (pros, etc.) are generally very aggressive early on. 1. They aren't interested in limping into the money....if they end up making the money, they want a stack to try and go deep. Barely making the money is a waste of time for them. 2. They know many people like you are going to be playing tight aggressive thinking just making it to the money would be a huge accomplishment.
My buddy ended up a touch short of the money, but he nursed a small stack most of the night. If you go card dead early, you're screwed as you aren't going to see many uncontested pots.

Also to the above poster, not going all in pre flop is probably the best advice. I would even probably lay down aces or kings pre flop if forced all in depending on the situation...I hate it when the play is totally out of your hands

You are big blind and it gets folded around to the small blind. He shoves. Youre gonna fold aces? Then you might as well stay home. Kings are a whole different ballgame. Alot of well-respected players will tell you theyve folded kings and were right. I'm sure alot have folded kings and were wrong.....dont fold aces preflop heads up. no way no how. Its a free entry! Lots of advice in this thread but folding aces is not something you should do.

If someone was giving you even money or better!! on something that you knew was a WORST CASE SCENARIO OVER 4:1 FAVORITE, would you fold? [AA VS. KK 81% TO 18% FAVORITE, if the guy has AK you are a 92% to 6% favorite. WHY THE HECK WOULD YOU FOLD?
I mean, a few spots away from the $ maybe , maybe, really NO, but maybe I can see someone folding aces if it was life-changing money that they were about to bubble out of if they lost as 4:1 favorite. BUT no, that is horrible advice.

But like my original post said, "depending on the situation". If I was big blind and everyone folded down to the small blind and the small blind shoves all in, then YES I would definitely call with Aces in that situation

I'm pretty damn sure in ATLANTIC CITY playing 1/2 NL for 12 hours would net you 12$ in comps. A dollar an hour. Not exactly gonna retire off the poker comps, but whatever. Go to BILLS BAR AND BURGER [nasty fuckin food, but when Im at harrahs for 3-4 days I go there a decent amount. Right around the corner from the poker room, they deliver, but everything tastes like it came out of the microwave or is it just me?]........and you get burgers fries, a shake and only gotta put in idk 10 bucks or something after an 8hr poker session.

But yeah, the whole all in Aces pre flop is just one of those situations where I don't even like thinking about it. Obviously, you have the best hand pre flop but its just a scary thing to put your tournament life on the line pre flop I'm not sure if I'm being a box, or logical?

If you ever watch the Main Event WSOP on espn, they highlighted a few guys near the bubble. It was a few spots away from players cashing and two guys had pocket pairs that folded preflop. Obviously these guys wanted to cash and had a few big blinds left and were more concerned about cashing than obtaining a lot of chips/double up. One guy folded KK, another folded QQ and their opponents who had a large amount of chips were bullying them with two random cards. I believe these guys both cashed, but it goes to show you that you should never do this unless you want to min-cash. In a 1k tourney...min cash is not much and everyone takes big chances to final table. You will be forced to a lot of decisions and some people can handle it, some cant. That is why many people lose chips from the blinds and not playing hands than just losing pots. Remember be the aggressor not the one being put to a decision. (more often you will fold the longer you think)
If you have say 5 or 10 big blinds of chips left...you are obviously one of the small stacks. If you are near the bubble, or at any point in the beginning of the tourney for that matter, you should shove with a pair...especially AA. In the early stages you should never fold AA preflop to one or even two people. Your goal is to gain large amounts of chips...not just a few blinds when you get big pairs.
What I mentioned earlier about not going all in preflop is true, but you should only do it if you have a premium pocket pair like QQ or better....and are forced to make a decision vs a loose player. I'd fold JJ in some cases. When you get the image at the table for being tight and playing only good cards, then the next time you raise someone preflop, they will take notice. You can use this to your advantage and maybe show a couple big pairs in the beginning then never show again. With this image you can start raising with any two every couple rotations and steal pots in position as position is key.
Another thing to note is to not raise the same amounts every time. You will develop patterns and good players pick up on this. You dont need to raise 3x the blinds. You can raise 2 to 2.5 and have it be as equal. When you have certain hands like AK, AQ, AJ dont raise the same amounts...and dont play them the same way....remember to mix up your play. Limp in...to trap in some cases. In the beginning of the tourney many will call these small bets to see how their cards connect and to gain chips...but trust me it is to your advantage later on in tourney to raise smaller. It is like Daniel Negreanu says...small-ball-poker. As the tourney increases the blinds go up and so does the number of chips you lose each rotation.

I am currently browsing priceline.com for rates on a hotel/flight package. Priceline definitely seems to be the best of these sort of websites, but the part of the flight says something like "flight departs between 1pm and 4pm and flight returns between 6pm and 9pm" I don't like this shit about not having a flight set in stone. Can anyone translate what this means exactly? Or any experiences with priceline?

If you are first to act and got two callers preflop with AQ again...continue to bet if you raised preflop. However, If they raised preflop and you called and they act first....then if they continuation bet on the flop of all small cards...dont be afraid to test them...you can reraise using that image of being a tight player playing high pocket pairs.
Final note is to only play premium hands strongly. Dont think that AJ on a A59 board is a great hand because you will get people playing hands like A5suited or A9 off. So dont put in a lot of chips thinking you are good all of the time.

You can check out the schedule for the WSOP and description of each event at the Wsop website. They all have long levels and you start deep...in fact you can miss a day and have half your chips. However, some tournaments have different structures...some are deep stack, some arent, just depends on which you are in. You wont be pressed for time at all.
