yes you need to move out, but don't let them know that you will do so sometime in the future and don't rebel. You're a 20 year old adult who has the ability to make choices in life, if gambling is one of your choice then you should plan on doing so after you move out.
I can understand that you might not be able to move out but all you need to do is save your money while your life is "over." Just focus on working for $500 a week and do your job by being a model citizen around their household. It might feel like being in jail but if you know what you are doing betting, then it will be worth it.
The reason why parents flip out on certain issues is because people have bad experiences with certain subjects like gambling and then automatically don't want to be associated with the people that have to do with their past bad experiences. Mothers find out about their daughters being strippers and fathers find out that their son is gayy. Either way, shitt is the way it is. If betting under their roof is a problem, then all you have to do is plan on moving out, so do what you have to do for the time being while in their "prison" but use that as motivation each and every single day till the day you are free to move out with all the money saved. In fact, once you moved out, you let them know that you will continue to gamble and that you won't even hide it from them. If they cannot accept your choices in life, then it's time to move on to better people who are open to a wider culture of people. I cannot stand people who are closed minded who don't know any better.
And lets say you are not the type of gambler who doesn't win much money, it doesn't matter. The least that any parent could have done in your situation is to teach you to plan accordingly to losses. Everyone should be taught at a young age about discretionary income but there's not enough people that know about money management to begin with.
Now, if you really care about your family and they are that high on you better not be gambling, etc then you can be honest with yourself and find something they will agree with. Honestly i am very appalled at almost every single one of these responses in this thread unless they are trying to be funny, but i take this very seriously if you're a young 20 year old with a bright future.
Well maybe you lied about your gambling to them for a while now, well that's alright as long as you let yourself know that you will come clean while under their roof by not betting. But like i said, when you leave you can also let them know what you'll be up to. As long as you are paying your bills with food on the table, you should be able to do what you want with your money.
Again, you dont need to rebel or move to your friends basement for $100 a month. Just keep your cool and follow their rules, but remember the motivation i told you to keep thinking about everyday. In fact make sure that they keep the playstation and tv. Get your own internet also if you want, the ones that you can carry around with you. It will be ALL worth it to save up your money.
