I absolutely love the Olympics...nothing more prestigious then these athletes competing for the glory of their country and competition....

I've always been a huge fan of the Olympics.  I remember as a kid sitting on the edge of my seat rooting for the U.S to win, even in events I had no interest in like swimming, any long distance running, diving, speed walking, judo, or later---- (the worst IMO)---- Mens' beach volleyball.. AKA "Top Gun"

I seriously do still get pumped up for the Track & Field events.  Fastest man on the planet race!!!   gimmie a break you have to watch that.

My oldest friend and I have an open bet between us since 1988, I would love input from anyone that was alive then.

Ben Johnson vs Carl Lewis  100m,,,  who wins the Gold Medal 1988 Oly......     I won't say who had who.

The interest on this $100 bet is around 30 years old

absolutely not  thumbs_down  

half the sports in it shouldn't be there at all I think 

Break dancing an_roll_laugh skateboarding, golf confused    other sports like soccer  have no place there either (even though I'm a big soccer fan just doesn't belong imo )

should be just track and field swimming, gym etc not mainstream sports 

next they'll be pushing for rugby league, American football, Aussie rules  and formula 1

 

even I kind of am looking forward to some elements  Paris should be a good host

 Definitely some interesting events but the discipline and focus it takes to compete is both physically and mentally challenging. Interesting to see all the new events for sure peace_5

 Running is really hard and those that have run or competed definitely have a solid understanding of the difficulty and how rare it is to compete at this highest level. Not saying you ran track but those are some very enjoyable events. peace_5

Basketball, swimming, track and field, distance running, etc etc….you either compete at the highest level or you wish you had the opportunity.

Running is so brutal and the men are literally like 6-7 minutes behind the world.

peace_5definitely look forward to the Olympics every 4 years and the Summer Games; they just weren't the same without the fans last time--track and field especially has good drama-that 100m final in '88 was like the Superbowl of track and field-forgot pre-internet how much hype there was for it; Ben Johnson still had one of the most dominating wins ever--being Canadian it was crushing a day later to find out he tested positive and got DQ'd....it made sense in retrospect since he was 3rd in LA to Lewis and he started bulking up a lot in '85-86 and getting that great start out of the blocks!

 I just posted a thread in the Olympics forum, asking if anyone really bets on the Olympics.  I do love watching the games - it was always a big deal in my house growing up.  Haven't been able to watch as much these last few times around (just life in general gets in the way), but hoping to be able to catch some events this year!

Housing in the Olympic Village does not have air conditioning. So the USA Team is bringing their own portable units.

By American standards, Paris is air conditioning free.

Hot n humid in Paris...like Atlanta only temps won't reach over low 90's but the humidity well getcha
