Got a friend who never has money.

Nicknamed him "The Sponge" because he constantly mooches off me.

I usually carry a little, between $20 to $40. I use a credit/debit card when making purchases (grocery store, restaurants, mall, etc)

I always thought people that carry a lot of cash don't have a bank account and have bad credit (or credix).

The better question is who still carries large sums of cash with them in the year 2013? Cash used to be king, now it's just shady.

It's all about the points.  I use my CC for every single purchase.  I've flown around the world a few times with the points I've accumulated.  But that's just me.

I'm sure this isn't what you are referring to but
Southwest Rapid rewards card for me as much as possible equates to free Vegas trips for me -

Some cards my friends use for air miles.  They get bonus miles sometimes for purchases depending on the promotion.  My sister in law's job flies her to Guam and other islands and she gets the miles even though her employer pays the way.  She and my brother gets lots of free airfare.

What does "not paying" have to do with not carrying cash?  To separate issues.

I rarely carry cash, but if I know I'm going to be somewhere where a CC isn't convenient, I make a point of having cash.  I'll even stop and buy a pack of gum or a water so I have small bills so I can pay my share without having to get change.

    Pretty simple.

My 4 year old niece makes more sense.

    Pretty simple.

my position is cash is stupid.  what's the point of it?  it should be obsolete.  it's a waste of money.  but since it isn't obsolete yet, i am forced to carry some.

I bring cash to the casino and leave 3 or 4 bucks in my pocket for the vending machine at work.  Other than that i just use my debit card mostly.

what's the point of cash?  it's easy to lose and easy to steal.  as our society advances, cash will become obsolete in favor of more electronic methods of transferring money.

the 2012 US budget for printing $747 million.  is that a necessary expense?

    that's for "printing new currency"

the dollar bill is mostly made of cotton.  how much will it cost to make dollar bills as the price of cotton rises?  why are we paying that expense for an unnecessary form of currency?

I have a credit card for emergency uses only. I prefer to carry cash though. Helps to prevent impulse purchases and helps me maintain my budget. I understand why people use cards for points accumulations though.

I only use credit cards for large purchases.   I always have cash around or on me.

No one can hack into my pocket and take my paper money.

no doubt, but a little easier to trace.  but that isn't really relevant.  even with all of the cash today, most people aren't holding most of their money in cash.  for most people, their money is just a number on a computer screen.  if electronic money is easy to steal, whether people are holding some cash doesn't change that.  why is our government spending hundreds of millions printing cash?

and very easy to find. At least if your credit card is stolen, you are likely to be reimbursed for the fraudulent charges that were incurred. If you leave your wallet with a thousand dollars in cash at the beach, kiss it goodbye.

Cash will always be king because drug dealers only accept cash.  You think Malik will take my credit card when I want to buy some crack? I don't think so!
