Police abuse of power, brutality and harassment

I don't often agree with Scal but I do on this. The golf club is irrelevant. Maybe it is his lucky golf club or maybe he has a fetish for golf clubs who cares.

She stated in the vid he swung the golf club at her as she turned a corner and that was why she stopped him. Maybe somebody asked directions and he used his club to point as she turned the corner. She is obviously one of the overzealous cops out there.

I have said it before I am a middle aged caucasion man living in an upper middle class neighborhood and I still worry about getting pulled over from an over zealous cop. I have had minimal interaction with the police over my lifetime but you catch the wrong cop on the wrong day and bad things can happen. It shouldn't be that way.

My cop friends tell me about the power trippers in their dept. who have a bad day and look to make other peoples life miserable because they can. They need more stringent psychological screening and up the age requirement.

Except when I see such flagrant idiocy when you attempt to excuse a cop's abuse of power by assuming:

1) She was responding to a call (no proof of that)

2) Putters serve as better cane than irons (who even needs proof of that and who would say such a thing for argumentation?)

As many here are pointing out to you (and you are continually ignoring), there is nothing illegal about walking around with a golf club at your side.

Further, your continual attempts to excuse this cop's behavior in any way, in light of everything in the OP (which you apparently haven't digested in full) in addition to what many are saying here, is quite disturbing.

So if you shut up now, you might escape this thread with dignity because you are not only highlighting your stupidity, but worse, your implicit support of renegade cops looking for their next arrest on law-abiding citizens.

For the 50th time, since you can't comprehend what you read:

-It is highly unlikely from the video evidence that the cop just sped right up to a guy standing around with a golf club and started harassing him like she did.  She was most likely responding.  We all understand you can't process that type of logic, especially when you are seeing red because it is a white cop and black victim, but just try to avoid automatically descending into your insult and deflect reflex

-I am not saying the cop was right.  I am trying to offer what I feel to be a more reasonable point of view to this situation because many, including you, see a white cop old black guy situation and want to white guilt your way into pat yourself on the back nirvana

-For someone who professes to be a forum messiah, a genius among commoners, forced to tolerate posts which are beneath him, you sure do lack logic and common sense.  Do you not think it is highly relevant to this case that a frigging 5 iron does not make an effective or even usable cane, when the dispute is the cop saying it's a weapon and he is claiming it's a cane?  Next we will see a cop question some dude walking around with a baseball bat and he'll say it's a back scratcher, and you will scramble to the rescue because lets just have a bunch of veterans walking around with baseball bats, they're not breaking the law. 

Once again, the cop is a liar and an idiot, but the cane story is bull. Go get a 5 iron and try using it as a cane for awhile since you cannot fathom that.  I am not saying, "wait, a 5 iron and a cane are 2 different things", I am saying an iron, mostly because of it's shape, does not help you if you are using it as a walking aid.  Using it next to you for support makes you unstable because it will twist and turn due to the shape of the clubhead.  How can such an enlightened deity such as yourself fail to grasp this?

I get it, he's walking around, he's an old guy, and it's nice to have a golf club with you in case something happens.  If a cop comes up and asks you to please set down the golf club, just set it down and then argue, don't defiantly stand there with it and get ur dumbass handcuffed.

Let me guess, you think people should legally be allowed to legally carry guns but this guy shouldn't be allowed to use a golf club as a cane because a golf club can be used as a weapon?

People can't just walk around brandishing firearms. Inaccurate comparison.  Licensed conceal and carry is legal in some places.  I suspect if the golf club were in a shopping bag none of this would have happened if you want to pursue that little gun scenario you propose. 

I am still amused at scalabrine's absence of logic.  Maintains that there is no support that the cop was responding.  Wants to think she just drove up and found a black guy to harass.  In the video, she drives straight up to the guy, the golf club never being visible, then gets out of her vehicle and asks him to put down the club with it still not being visible.

Is she psychic, or do you think maybe she was responding?

So you are concerned that THIS guy MIGHT use his 5 iron cane as a weapon but you're not concerned that someone might use a GUN they're concealing as a weapon? 

So you don't think this is less about what he might do and more about the public perceiving a threat?  After all, why do you think guns have to be concealed? 

I think this is about a power hungry pig harassing a guy. Why would she say he tried to hit her with the club? Why wouldn't she just say she got a call and people were perceiving his 5 iron cane as a threat? 

Why are you going off on a tangent about her lying when I already said she was lying?  Why are you trying to discuss why she did or didn't say certain things when the video shows she went straight up to the guy without the club being visible, indicating she was already informed of the situation?

DO you think he was arrested for having a golf club, or being belligerent and uncooperative to a police officer, regardless of whether or not that officer is a few clubs short of a set?

If I'm not mistaken, the cop had a pending lawsuit against the Seattle police dept. which might explain the release of the video as retribution

The golf club guy who was arrested for obstruction (which is illegal), not golf club strolling, is suing Seattle police dept. for $750,000

It would be great if all the Seattle club toting demonstrators had their tax dollars go to the cop and the club guy for their lawsuits, then watch them cry when their taxes go up.
