PROP 8 in California

1 question,
If its their "right" to be gay, isnt is also our "right" to vote YES on Prop 8???
 
Just curious how all these gays want their right but they seem to forget we (hedrosexuals) have rights also

Im not for or against it, Im just curious as to what "rights" are being taken from them because all te Prop 8 advocators are saying all their legal rights are the same regardless of Prop 8. Is that tru? Tell me. Rip me some more if u want but just answer the question too lol

Im not here to fight about it. Like I said, I have no opinion on YES or NO. I just was curious about the rights issue really.

I had this page typed and I screwed up and lost it all.

Who cares if gays can be married? Last I checked all citizens have the rights and liberties to pursue happiness and enjoy life. I guess gays are void of these rights as were African Americans and women at not too distant past.

The future will look back and laugh at how closed-minded we were and how scared we were to allow a certain group of the population to enjoy the rights that the majority already have.

Marriage is a union, you can marry many things, not just a man and a woman..you can marry two companies, you can marry two vats of wine, you can marry a community. Any adult citizen deserves to share the same legal rights as another, regardless of orientation, religion, sex or color.

We had the same thing on the ballot down here and it made me sick to think people actually force their views and personal opinions on others and in the process remove rights and freedoms from those they see as different.

That is EXACTLY what the pro-prop literature wanted you to think.

Consider if you had legal rights removed (if you were married) if you were a M/F married couple, how would you feel if your spouse were in the hospital and you couldnt make a medical choice for them? What if you wanted to have a life insurance policy to your spouse but couldnt? What if you wanted to adopt a child and couldnt? What if you wanted to be legally married because you loved the person and you couldnt?

It has very little to do with walking down the aisle and everything to do with freedom and the ability to share the rights that majority already has and you deserve.

Dont be afraid of giving another reasonable adult the freedom to live their life as they deserve to, it wont destroy the school system or the fabric of society. Dont believe the scare tactics used (which were to drum up conservatives to the polls for a certain politician running for office)

See thats what I wanted to know. Ive been led to believe that they already have these rights you mentioned. If im prohibiting them from doing the tings u mentioned like hospital vistits and wills and such then Id vote NO on prop 8 (in favor of the gays). But if was just about getting to walk down the aisle then, to be honest, I wouldnt really care either way. Thanks, you answered my questions WSC

Prop 8 is supposed to be about HUMAN RIGHTS, not CHURCH RIGHTS. Conservatives (in California) successfully swayed their church congregation to vote Yes on 8. Churches were literally handing out flyers telling their congregation what to vote on. Unbelievable.

WallStreet nailed it when he said that we're all gonna look back fifty years from now and laugh at how stupid we looked by allowing this to pass.

No one has denied gays anything prop 8 was strictly meant to define marriage, gays can go to conn, mass if they want marriage.

Oh that is funny.

So now if a gay couple wants to be married they can only live in two states?



Marriage only needs to be defined because a certain loud majority is afraid of giving rights to a minority who lives differently.

There is no need to fear gay marriage, it does not take anything away from a M/F relationship, it does not pollute society, does not spread the "gay disease". People have been gay for centuries, not allowing to consenting adults to be married, regardless of orientation is nothing short of discrimination period.

right, just like the laws in effect not too long ago that prevented whites and blacks from marrying each other.  it's just a different way of defining marriage.

How can two companies, two vats of wine or being married to a community be a valid statement when I thought a legal marriage involved signatures? Who signs for my community?

If two people of the same sex want to marry and be together let them.  I don't see what the big friggin' deal is.  How does that adveresly affect your life?  If this is what makes people happy then so be it..
 
There are far more things wrong in the world, so worrying about something like this is just stupid.

Move up here to Canada where Gay Marriage is legal and no one gives a fuck

You could marry a cow and I wouldn't care. Let people live their lives the way they want, why should other people care? I've been trying to understand this for years and keep coming up empty.

I guess the one question I have is not so much about letting gays get married, but the rolling pin that follows.
 
If gay marriage is leagalized what position does the school system have to take in now discussing this lifestyle with our kids? Is it appropriate or not appropriate? I don't know. Most of us are schooled and know the curiculum of health class, but when you possibly add this dimentia to the equation people beging to freak out. 
 
I believe why so many are against it is not so much the marriage part, but what it may lead to. I live in California and run a business so I talk with many people in how they feel that it is the couples perogative to marry, but they are not comfortable with what it may lead to as far as how it impacts the education aspect in school. I guess it's the unknown factor.
 
Not sure either party can claim right or wrong here, but peoples beliefs tend to be traditional when it comes to marriage whether we like it or not. There are still certain older generations that are alive that do not view today's society with a very good light. They are not in tune with today's time with culture, music and lifestyles as they were not brought up diverse nor have they chosen to adapt or accept these modern views.
 
Once those generations pass us by it will be easier for those to accept because we were brought up with these changes.
