I'd deep six the horse idea and get a camel. You can take him to kid's birthday parties for rides and make more money.
They call it the Sport of Kings because only Kings can afford the potential losses. You have to get lucky just to break even in that sport- Its not something you invest your $10,000 saving account on. I think you should have a half million in the bank if you want to pick up a $15,000 claimer- Not that you need all that money, more that you can easily afford to lose 30 or 40k

you lose money because of the fees associated with the monthly expenses (feed, vet, stall etc....)
with me paying none of that and only collecting, i am not forseeing any type of a loss. More of the risk is now on the trainer.

worst comes to worst we sell the horse if were having no luck with him. Annd thats worst case scenario

Sa123- What horse u go in on? I know u haven't mentioned the trainer name here, but I'm guessing it's the Callahan's. They will do ok for you in Ocean Downs bu i fear that'll be about it. I know your instincts are telling u that your gonna have problems in Chester, Pocono or Dover. But wish u the best.

The cost monthly runs about 3500-4500 per month that's everything. One of the most important things is to race your horse in the right company don't be afraid to lose the horse otherwise it will become a very expensive pet . I can go on and on bottom line it's a very tough business . You must pay attention every day and trust nobody. Greatest feeling is when you win. Good Luck.
