Razor blades

i'm getting tired of paying ridiculous prices for blades that only last 2 or 3 shaves, and Gillette are practically the only company that does the product, why is this a monopoly business ?

I remember 10-15 years ago, blades lasting longer, now theyre blunt in next to no time and buying a six pack of them is like having a steak dinner. I've tried using an electric shaver but thats not close enough for me. A buddy uses Dorco, are they any good.

Time to ditch gillette

16 dollars for a 4 pack of mach 5's is outrageous.. And you're right that strip goes away after about four shaves.. Where is that guy who was complaining that he couldn't grow facial har.. I shave in the shower every other day and  it blows

Here's a trick to extend the life of your razor.

When you are done shaving take a towel and completely dry the blade.
You'll get at least a month out of a blade. Basically the blade "going dull" is because it is "rusting out" more or less but drying the blade  after each use will slow down the process.

I get triple edge blades in a package of four at the 99 cent store. They are a great bargain and give you multiple shaves.

I keep a real short goatee that I shave with my electric every a.m.   Cuts down the area I shave to about half as much and thus my razors tend to last twice as long.  

Prices are nuts.  I just bought some for $16 and they weren't even the right ones.

Like the guy above mentioned the blade gets rusty not dull..Get a coffee cup and put about an inch or two of cooking oil and put your blade in that after each use..I will make you blade last a longtime..I use a mach 3 blade for 3 or more months..The little stip will wear off but the blade will be fine..

what the darn are you guys doing, shaving your legs with it every day?  i change my blade about three times a year.

I buy my blades off ebay...In bulk.

I wind up buying 1-2 times a year....
Just make sure the seller has great feedback or you'll risk getting old school bic blades in mach 3 cartons.

Electric shave while sitting down in the morning, then blade shave in the shower. Not having to work as much, blades last longer. Might try the leave-it-oil trick.

I find if you fight through a rough shave or two with the dulling blade it becomes ok again. Agreed with the above about drying it.

I actually haven't bought new blades in over 18 months. I decided that I'm not shaving anymore. Every week I grab my trimmer and trim my beard down to a 5 o clock shadow.   Done. On with my day.

I don't post too often, but, this thread caught my eye. I listen fairly consistently to ESPN Radio and noticed a company called Dollar Shave Club started advertising based on exactly the points made so far, the oppressively expensive Gillette monopoly. I initially researched DSC and decided not to pursue it, nonetheless, seemed like good value. I just did a quick search again and the reviews seem quite good across the board. You may want to do an internet search and take a look.

I know the feeling.  I do a lot of shaving like shaving my face, chest, and armpits. I'm always replacing my blade every week or sometimes twice a week.

buy the cheapest triple blade. last me for weeks. shave 3-4 times a week.

 Just like almost everything else nowadays: cheaper quality at a higher price.  I seemed like cheap bag of orange Bic disposables years ago lasted longer than today's expensive Gillette's.  But the Bic's regularly nicked and were rough on my skin, so I guess that is why they were so cheap.
