SJP: Dream girl or turn off?

Question

I remember when I had to create an account through wagerline.com just so I could compete in the Streak Survivor contest back when I discovered wagerline.com/covers.com almost 5 years ago. I never really ventured onto Covers.com until it took over wagerline.com and made it into one site. Then and only then did I delve into the online community and the information provided by those working for or affiliated with Mr. Severansky.

But now there is a new reason: Sarah J. Phillips, the new Covers writer phenomenon who has escalated herself onto the center stage of personas on this website. The response I have seen in the forums and blogs has been mixed ranging from positive to indifferent to downright vindictive. But since most members on here share a common interest (and most are male I am going to assume) why would the idea of a female sports gambler not be of interest to straight men on this site? Yes I know Covers could have gone through this elaborate scheme of creating a fictitious female character in her 20s, with a bankroll, and a general understanding of the sports she bets on. I'm not saying Sarah J walks on water or that I'm in love with the idea of what she represents. But I do not come from this alpha-male ideology of scoffing at the notion women cannot talk about professional athletics and know what they are talking about.

I am sure there are some former major/minor league athletes in here but for the most part Sarah J has a commonality with many of us on this site. She has never came close to playing professional sports but she observes and enjoys them. Isn't that like most males on this site? The hoards of us who never came close to playing sports at a high level?? It's like anything if you are around it enough and you observe and understand something, you will be able to talk about it intelligently. Whether you are a male or female is a moot point.

No I do not want to take the role of knight-and-shining-armor or goody-two-shoes for Sarah J. It is just that I am not sexist and I see no problem discussing sports and gambling with a female. I am positive for some people Sarah J is dream come true. For others she's merely a chick rambling about sports. Why is the fact that she is a woman expose her to opinions and criticisms? For me, Sarah J is the most interesting character on Covers. Which leads me to banter with her about sports and sports gambling sometimes and to simply not post anything when I do not feel compelled to. A 20 year old female tout? I think not. I prefer to make my own picks or trail like many but everybody has opinions here. Let's not bury somebody simply because "She's a lady" like that famous Welsh and Elvis wannabe Tom Jones sang

Well.. Seeing as how this "Sarah" person has used multiple different pictures of different women from Day 1, I would say this person is more than likely not who they say that they are...

In my opinion this is nothing more than another Sammy11 clone but one that can actually write...

I just have a hard time thinking she is some 20 yr old broad that she claims to be. If "she" is indeed a female, she would be most likely somebody middle aged for someone with "her" knowledge of sports. I just find it incredulous that she can be as well versed in athletes i.e Horace Grant, playing at a time when she was not more than a gleam in her mother's eyes.

Anyone who honestly believes a hot young woman would spend a lot of her free time chatting up degenerate gamblers on an online gambling forum free of charge should know I have a few bridges I could give them a great deal on.

I hate to break it to you guys, but very few hot young women regularly post on online message boards and talk to strangers because, let’s be honest, if they are hot and young they have better things to be doing with their time. And the few that do probably aren’t going to gravitate towards ones like covers.

Ask yourself: if you were a very good looking guy in his early 20’s and could bang a different hot chick every other night would you spend a lot of your free time chatting up strangers on a message board populated by mostly unattractive and overweight older women?

But hey, if believing they are talking to an attractive woman online is what gets some guys through the day, well more power to them.
