stayed in a fancy hotel in San Fran in a non smoking room put it on credit card when the bill came in there was a charge for $250 for cleaning room due to detection of smoke after she checked out.
I sent the bill back to the hotel with a note telling them she does not smoke FUCK YOU it may have even been a maid WTF knows that charging for smells is BULLSHIT. I have been in Hotels where the cleaning agents and air freshner was so strong it gags you I wonder if you can bill the hotel after you leave for that smell.

Would I be pissed if my room smelled like smoke? yes would I complain and ask to be moved? if it smelled bad enough yes ...would I rat out a guest? no but I might handle it myself with a knock on the door or a comment in the elevator .... But listen to what your saying do you always stay in hotels that are 4 days old ??? have you ever seen documentaries of how filthy hotels are????? buddy its a fucking hotel room they are cess pools of filth do you think the bed spread was changed after that guy fucked his girl in the ass right before he lit that ciggy??? ...First thing I do before I smell for smoke is strip the bed spread and put it in the corner of the room i dont want to be anywhere near that thing.....honestly how many of you guys have gone to a room and threw your woman down and fucked her right there ontop of the bed not in it??

You are also absolutely wrong on the asthama thing tho. I have a son with it. Smoking is a trigger. You are saying ANYONE has a right to pollut anyone else's air? That is just ridiculous. Not asking for special stairs, elevators, handicapped accessible facilities, or anything that costs a bunde that you and I end up paying for. Just asking for a little respect, which should be common sense. Why not just ban this filthy, scummy, unhealthy, drain on health services and employers. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing good about cigarettes. Nobody, nobody has this right. What part of this doesn't anyone get? Thank GOD they are banning smoking in restaurants/bars in many states. I now can go out, ENJOY my beverage and food, and I don't have to smoke too (2nd hand). If you are stupid enough to smoke, at least have the respect to not smoke in a non-smoking room. my daughter has athsma as well but I dont shelter her a person with asthma has to deal with it and it sucks IF smoke bothers her she moves away from the smoke she doesnt ask the smoker to move..... but there is a difference with someone in a car or room with closed windows and alot of smoke and a room that SMELLS like smoke... smoke and smells like smoke are two completely different things and a room that SMELLS does not trigger asthma it just smelly

Smokers, when you break non-smoking rules and get caught, the only fault is your own. Businesses and other public places aren't secretly raising no smoking signs behind your back or trying to get you if you do smoke - they tell you before you even think of smoking. You choose to break the rules, then you assume the risk and liability of the punishment for doing so. A place like a non-smoking hotel alerts you when you book your room (online), when you check in, and when you go into your room - if not on the elevator and in other public places at the hotel on your way to your room. Pointing the finger at the narc, security, manager or whomever when you get busted is just a way of trying to defer blame and not accept your own responsibility.
Fact: cigarette smoke leaves residue behind whether smokers see, smell, feel or care to admit it. Smokers: go get lung xrays and tell me different - or better yet, get them after 30 or 40 years of smoking, if your lungs hold out that long. The residue is nasty and affects everyone, some more others, some less. But nasty as it is, smokers still enjoy it or accept it as a side effect to their addiction.
Here's a silly analogy but one nonetheless. Say you're a cigarette smoker and the guy in the room next to you or even six rooms down enjoys burning paper bundles, plant leaves and wood inside his room instead of tobacco because he likes the smell and taste of that in the air. That smoke also soils the air and everything inside the room. You walk down the hall and even though you smell it, would you just let it go "because he paid for the room"? And would you confront him about it or tell security because you don't know what mental state the guy is in in the first place (especially to be burning that stuff)? Oh btw, cigarettes are paper, plants and wood. So the analogy is not that far of a stretch.
Asking security or the manager to do something about a smoker is the best possible solution for the OP and anyone else facing this situation. It insures anonimity and eliminates having to face down someone who is nonconformist in the first place. Besides - who knows who is behind the door in the room the smoker is in?
This thread emphasizes a particular lack of respect for rules and highlights those people that choose to disobey them, enforce them, and penalize for breaking them. Spin it any way you will, if the smoker was not in the wrong in the first place, this thread and discussion would never have occured.
