Correct. MM gaff got you into trouble. If you can eliminate this temporary insanity, continue to wager.

....money management is technically a gambling problem.

Try the Fantasy is no different that investing in the stock market.You are starting with x amount and that will keep you occupied as opposed to daily wagers? Congrats tho

Sorry to read this but need to respond. 
It must have been a big 5 figure amount for your wife to make to go to addiction counseling. Does she have any vices ? I just don't understand why sportsbetting is still such a taboo. Maybe you should dump her now for SJP. Oh wait she is pregnant. To which I congratulate you. Only kidding. Look everyone has vices some cost more money than others. Choose marriage counseling over addiction counseling. One more suggestion for you. Stop posting here. You're more addicted to this website than sportsbetting. Maybe you get from here what is missing from your wife. Figure it out in therapy. Life is short.

just kidding dude.....do what you gotta do, but I agree with a couple of the above posts, it was chase, if I remember correctly, at 1 point you were like a 10$ unit bettor correct?  How in the world can that affect your life if you just go back to that amount?????

anyway, best with whatever you decide, good luck with the junior..........

I was going to tell you the same thing about futures.  These are the best bets if you want to have action on games.

1)  There is so much time between making the wager and collecting or losing, that when you lose you don't feel the need to chase.

2)  For a set amount of money, you get action on a huge number of games.  If you bet VA Tech to win the ACC, you can root for them all year, and root for UNC and Miami to lose all year.  Bet on Bama to win the BCS, and you have action on 4 or 5 games a week.

3)  I don't have the time or energy to handicap all week every week, but with futures I can spend a week in the summer with Phil Steele, put in my bets, and be done with it.

4)  Betting individual games has a lot of aggravation, you can drive yourself crazy thinking about why a line moved, having it move against you, thinking is the line is too good to be true, hedging at halftime, etc.


I wish you would post your picks though.  Whenever I make picks without putting money on them, I hit a very high percentage. 





Thanks thorpe, I think you might have something with your approach. Your point #4 is very astute, especially if you spread yourself out and/or do live plays and hedge. Requires lots of attention and is time consuming without a doubt.

I'll still post thoughts and maybe picks, see how it goes. Just gonna take it one day at a time

Words of wisdom, GG. Very well put. I definitely appreciate that distinction, I don't know if subtlety is really something you want to go for in this situation when dealing with a woman scorned. Logic will never, ever beat emotion.

If gambling brings you pleasure, then I agree with Goose and Pound in that it is a money management issue.... just go small recreational bets.

If it doesn't bring you pleasure, then don't do it.

As far as the wife, if was a budgeted household line item, she'd probably be okay with it.  It's like eating chocolate chip cookies, just don't eat too many of them.
