Thank God for people like chris broussard who isn't afraid to speak the truth in this PC world.

people will bash him, but he is a man of God and just spoke the truth.

I love the Pc liberals who speak of tolerance, but the never show it to people who have different opinions then them.

they want people to be tolerent of everything under the sun, but let someone like chris broussard have an opinion, they will do everything they can to silence him and get him fired.

so much for tolerance. God Bless

Exactly.  I just heard an interview with a former hockey player for the Wild.  They asked him about it.  His answer:  "I don't agree with the lifestyle.....it goes against religious beliefs and personal convictions. However, it's his life....not mine.  If he was on my team I'd treat him like any other teammate and we'd both pull the rope together just like everyone else."


Nothing wrong with disagreeing.....what purpose does it serve to tell them they are going to burn in he$$?

Actually, he's someone who believes in God and he gave his opinion.

he is a hypocrite like most of you bigots.  where is his outrage for teams serving shrimp and crab at pregame meals or the nba uniforms being made out of more than one fiber or nba players getting divorced or having premarital sex and so on? 

typical loudmouth biblethumper getting fired up over the "sins" that fit into his narrow minded bigotry but ignoring the "sins" that he doesn't have a problem with.

Why do self-righteous clowns like Broussard think that we care about the fact that he believes in fairy tales?   All he is doing is setting himself up to be placed under a microscope by someone looking to find out that he is a hypocrite...soon we will learn that he has been having an affair with a stripper or that he himself has had a happy encounter.  I can't wait!

Here is the answer you might get.  Some would argue that Broussard "has asked the Lord for forgiveness and has learned to live the Truth and Light by His word" and therefore may have the right to judge.  The fatal flaw for me is the following:  How does anyone know (incuding Broussard) whether 1.  He has met this requirement, and 2. Even if he supposedly has, we are ALL sinners.....we sin all the time.  Why does asking for forgiveness and living the Truth and Light by His word give us the right to then judge?  They say to not judge unfairly.  Well, if you haven't been in a person's shoes, how can you judge fairly?

How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' [tell him of his "minor" sins] when all the time there is a plank in your own eye [that there are greater or the same sins in our own lives which we do nothing about or think we are above]? You hypocrite* [pointing out the sins of others while by pretense thinking of ourselves as above sin], first take the plank out of your own eye [sincerely ask the Lord for forgiveness and learn and live the Truth and Light by His Word], and then you will see clearly [be in a righteous position] to remove the speck from your brother's eye [to judge and to help him out of his bondage to sin]."

These are also the same people who say that take the Bible literally....therefore, homosexuality is a no-no.

My sister attends a church where her old Rector was a lesbian.  So even people involved in organized religion can't come to an agreement as to what's what.

Yeah, Broussard really stuck to his guns.  Folded like a tent when pressed.  

"Today on OTL, as part of a larger, wide-ranging discussion on today's news, I offered my personal opinion as it relates to Christianity, a point of view that I have expressed publicly before. I realize that some people disagree with my opinion and I accept and respect that. As has been the case in the past, my beliefs have not and will not impact my ability to report on the NBA. I believe Jason Collins displayed bravery with his announcement today and I have no objection to him or anyone else playing in the NBA."

ESPN also released a statement late Monday:

“We regret that a respectful discussion of personal viewpoints became a distraction from today’s news. ESPN is fully committed to diversity and welcomes Jason Collins’ announcement.”

these after the fact apologies are so pathetic.  he said it, he meant it, why not stand behind it rather than be a box about it.  that's why the westboro baptist church deserves more respect in my opinion than these chickensh*t bigots who backtrack as soon as their bigoted beliefs go public.  they all hate g*ays the same, at least one group isn't afraid to be called what they are.

You know ESPN is 100% behind this.

Now the apology is bigger news than the actual event that preceded the need for an apology.  And now EVERYONE demands an apology for everything.  

A local sports radio show here rates these types of things in terms of sincerity and effectiveness.  It's fantastic.

I don't often voice my opinion regarding religion, but I can't stand people like Broussard.  If you want to live your life, make decisions and voice your opinions according to some book...that's fine.  But, your job with ESPN is for SPORTS...it's not a platform to voice your religious views.

I'm Agnostic with a slight lean towards atheism.  Science and common sense tell me god doesn't exist.  I don't hate those who want to believe they're going somewhere in the afterlife.  But to live your life based off a book...to me is ridiculous.

i imagine broussard only lives by the parts that feed into his bigotry but some books might be worth basing your life on

I know most don't like some of these guys, but they are all atheists and freakishly intelligent....and I enjoy watching them discuss religion probably do to their knowledge and ability to add some comedic aspect.

I should edit.  I'm Atheist to the core with about a 0.01% agnostic in me.

Actually I stand with Chris Broussard on this one. If we are to respect Jason Collins and listen to his viewpoint then Chris Broussard must be heard as well. For ESPN to take a stance is really amazing considering they are a "media" outlet and should be unbiased  to allow for debate, this is the TRUE reason for a "democratic" populace. I might not want to respect your opinion but to not allow you the freedom of expression because it differs with mine really benefits NOBODY!

Because Chris Broussard is an employee of ESPN, he shouldn't express his religious or moral beliefs when he is employed (on the air).  If he wishes to believe in fairy tales and dragons, he has every right to do so, but he needs to articulate that faith ON HIS OWN TIME.  He doing what he did is like me sending out a press release on company letterhead that expresses my personal agenda.  Say I wanted to say that I believe that christianity is a cult and it does way more harm than good.  It would be inappropriate for me to use company time and resources as it implies that the company endorses my own views.

Has anybody ever played a more unnoticed, unremarkable 12 year career in the NBA than Jason Collins? I guess this is the end of his anonymity. Of course when nobody signs the 34 year old career-long reserve this year, they'll cry discrimination. This is just the beginning of a media storm to come.

What's your guess as to what Teblow does this year ? If he's serious about playing football, he can't take the season off. No bully pulpit in the real world just yet for him.  Jacksonville supposedly doesn't want him, but I wouldn't be stunned if he winds up in a Jaguar uniform this summer. In fact, I'm kind of expecting it.

What is the problem here? Isnt Broussard entitled to an opinion? He isn't saying he is better than Collins etc etc, rather, expressing a view.

Furthermore to Atheists, how can you criticize Broussard under your world view of subjective morality.

It seems that many of you are prepared to fight tooth and nail, but when a real life example shows up, you fall over like a house of packed cards.
