Katie Couric, Charlie Gibson, Brian Williams, and a Tough US Marine Sgt. were captured by terrorists in Iraq.
The leader of the terrorists granted each a last request before being beheaded and dragged naked thru the streets.
Couric said,'Well, I'm a southerner, so I'd like some fried chicken.'
The leader nodded and another brought the chicken.
She ate and said,'Now I can die content.'
Gibson said,'Im living in NY, so I'd like to hear the song, The Moon and Me, one last time.'
The leader nodded and some rag tag musicians played the song.
Williams said,'I'm a reporterto the end. I want to take out my tape recorder and describe what's about to happen. Maybe someday someone will hear it and know I was on the job til the end.'
The leader had an aide give him a tape recorder for his comments.

The Leader now turned and said, 'And now Mr. US Marine, what's your final wish?'
'Kick me in the butt',said the Marine
'What?' asked the leader,'Will you not mock us in your last hour?'
'No, I'm NOT kidding, I want you to kick me in the butt.' insisted the Marine.
So the leader shoved him into the yard and kicked him in the butt.
The Marine went spralling, but rolled onto his knees, pulled a 9mm from inside his cammies and shot the leader dead. In the resulting confusion, he emptied his sidearm on six terrorists, then slashed one with his knife, took his AK-47 and sprayed the rest, killing 12.

In a flash, all were either dead or fleeing for their lives.
As the Marine was untying the three, they asked him,'Why didn't you just shoot them in the first place?? Why did you ask him to kick you in the butt??

'What??? replied the Marine,'and have you three report that I was the aggressor....???

    Semper Fi !!

Well when you're on deployment, it's not like you have a lot of free time to lounge around. It's likely he's on some project when not on duty...guard, watches, etc. and that's not including regular patrols and other missions. Also, internet access could be a big issue depending on where he's deployed to. Deploying to Afghanistan next year and thinking I'll have those similar problems above.

What branch is Irish in, anyway? Good luck to the guy, nonetheless and a speedy return.

    Apache,

Thanks for the laugh! That was a good one...i enjoyed it. If you guys want to hear another one that is funny and actually a true story and ironically involves katie couric, read this from an interview she did in Iraq a few yrs ago. Day after it happened, word spread about it throughout the military very fast. Katie did not want to air it:

Katie Couric [CBS] , while interviewing a Marine sniper asked:

"What do you feel when you shoot a Terrorist?"

The Marine shurgged and replied, "A slight recoil."

Quick update: Things are going fairly well out here. We are starting to see more and more soldiers showing up which is good because as the weather gets warmer, the fight gets hotter as well. The fight here is COMPLETELY different than Iraq and to be frank, I am stunned that I was not really aware of whats been going on here. The focus for awhile was so much on Iraq that this place was forgotten. The fight here is ten times more difficult than Iraq mainly because

    1. The terrain. We can't just occupy entire areas because most of the Taliban hides out high in the mountains where we cannot get vehicles. Very few fuckin roads out here in this stone age land.

    2. The enemy. They have been fighting there entire lives and they are pretty saavy, tough, and very persistent in trying to kill us. They have had the nerve to attack our base twice already (breaching the wire) and fire rockets and mortars at us on almost a daily basis. The carbombs at our gates are terrifying and while more soldiers were getting killed in Iraq, the fear level here is much greater than that in Iraq. The carbombs which are denoated hundreds of yards away put cracks in the walls of our buildings.

The patrolling through the rough terrain in the FREEZING cold is not easy. It's also the DARKEST place I have ever seen. At night, you can put your hand directly in front of your face and not see a thing. The enemy knows about the surge and have made that very clear. It's going to be a hot summer, no doubt about that.

In other news, my wife is now 20 weeks pregnant with our first child (won't know gender till due day). Going to take my 2 week break at home at around the due date in July. Got some pictures from the sonogram today....very cool!

Hope all is well and thanks for the support guys. Apache--you are a good man.

    Kickin,

US Army....Infantry Captain Hope they are training you well for your future deployment. Things here are not too bad...we have Internet working most of the time and most importantly, we have HOT showers! By the time you get here, things should be even better, as they are doing a lot of construction. Good luck to you. Win.

Irish,  whats poppin man,  Good to hear from you, Have a few friends in your neck and they are saying the same stuff about how emboldened the enemy is , and how they themselves will have a surge when we withdrawl from IRaq.

Im a combat engineer, and did my first tour in Iraq doing route clearance, and fully expect to be out that way within the next 2-3 years, we had a srp last month, and I can tell that we are amping up for deployment,  I was an invol transfer into my last deploying unit, so we get back and our home unit is ready to deploy, actually looking forward to it.

not sure if this is your first or twentieth deployment but after my first working a regular job is about as boring as watching paint dry.

congrats on the baby man, now get back safe to raise it
