Arthur Ashe had courage.

Bruce Jenner just wanted to be a woman.  This is deemed courageous?  If the idea wasn't so pathetic it would be funny.

Except......

She's not related to a Kardashian, or O.J. Simpson's DNA, or whatever....... Maybe, possibly, if she was going through some kind of sexual reassignment surgery before she passed on, maybe she would have been considered for this award....... 

I'm sure Arthur Ashe is spinning in his grave.............

The award isnt as far off as you guys are suggesting.

Jenner is an accomplished athlete who is passing through a very challenging decision in his/her life. 

Making the decision to come to terms with a gender change is not something that is easy and think of how many years she/he has struggled with this issue.

I dont claim to know or understand, the only way you could really know is if you had the same crisis and had to deal with it and all the persecution and struggle that comes with it.

It's a personal issue of dealing with mental illness. No courage involved. How about the people he lied to for years about who he really thinks he is? How about embarrassing your biological children? Courage huh? Not in my opinion...

I see where you're coming from, and I had really had no problem with Michael Sam getting it last year being that he is still an active player and it wasn't easy....   But Jenner is a different story.  I saw a story today that said that 'Caitlyn' is set to make more money than 'Bruce' ever did between interviews, books/movies, etc....   I think somewhere in here lies a cash grab and this isn't all about the struggles of a person who has been living with this decision.   And the pending manslaughter issue doesn't look good either.   Like one poster said, Lauren Hill would have been a great choice.

My issue doesn't stem from him wanting to be a her.  If that's what you've got to do, then that's what you've got to do.  I'll still make jokes, but at the end of the day, I'm no bible-thumping hard on that finds this an abomination to our planet.

 I loath him because he represented the most evil, filthy, useless, embarrassing, money-grubbing force that still rules America to this day: the Kardashians. 

Many people have Mr. Garrison'd themselves in the past and most never really cared.  Had he JUST been known as a decathlon gold medalist, this would be a blurb in the USA Today; but because he was a part of the blackest eye in American television history is the only reason people find this remarkable, trailblazing, heroic and courageous.  Just like the only reason he got off from vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving was because he was a Kardashian.

I...hate...the...Kardashians.  I......hate......the......fuckking......Kardashians.

Yeah I agree with the comments about the money grab and the Kardashians.

I dont know much about that family because I dont follow them at all, so the annoyance for me isnt as bad if I had followed the media more.

Osmosis has had to have kicked in at some point.  It is awful that we have to know so much about these families without watching or reading about them.  Whether it is these or the Quack dynasty or the royals.  Who cares so much about non relatives or friends families?  Just weird to me.

I don't know what a dugger is, but I know every time I log on to my email it is front page news over air disasters, US airstrikes, dead people, economy collapse and deadly storms.  They must be a big deal.

And me and old lady have a deal now that when she watches that diabolical kardashian show that I must be in the other room and volume tuned down to 10 or lower so it cannot be heard.  I lost so much respect for this girl that she watches s**t like that that I may break up with her and drop the lease.
