The basis of Neitzian philosiphy---but can be proven false at its root--how the fuck does five heart attacks "make me stronger"? Or enduring the deaths of ones sloved ones, or the normal slings and arrows of outrageous fortune all must face day afteer day? Unless one is some unfeeling inhuman beast--fuck Neizche

We are all given a choice. When hardship comes we can either succumb to the emotional pain, or learn and grow from it. If you choose the latter, you are better equipped to handle misfortune the next time it comes.
For those who think they can control outside events, this is difficult to understand.
For those who like to play the victim, this is difficult to understand.
For those who grasp the reality that we have no control over external events, and that we are all just "walking each other home" (Ram Dass), we have the choice to learn from events, and grow from them.
Nietzsche was a nihilist, and as such a pessimist. Which makes this quote from him odd, as it is positive in nature.
Personally, I believe in the meaning of the quote, but I feel that Nietzsche was full of shit

I agree with HJ........ can't take it literally. I liken it more towards learning from experience. Sometimes what you may have learned isn't apparent til a ways down the road.

In some way that can be true. Peoples who go through difficult experiences are given a chance to develop an ability to cope with such situations in the future.

There is some truth to the saying from a physiological point. The strengthening is called hormesis and various things can do it that push the body to a sublethal dose of some stressor. The body will eventually adapt from a continual stressor though and the hormesis goes away.
After the nuclear weapon was dropped on Hiroshima many of the survivors lived out quite a healthy and long life. Even oncologists who are exposed to low dose radiation daily are reported to live on average about 2 years longer than average.

This is the whole idea behind intermittent fasting.

He gets credited with this quote shortly before dying while he was being cared for in Vienna by his sister due to what they now know as syphallis. ive read from multiple sources that he was self encouraging himself and was trying to prove he wasn’t going insane from the disease. It’s a genius quote, but where it came from and it’s timing leaves a lot to be desired from such a genius observer of humanity. Thus spoke Zarathustra is my favorite book followed by Beyond Good and Evil.

When I pass on from this spot , I’ll be askin’ the gods , ramblin’ like a madman , badasss , handling a glock , or sawed off then POP …. “ All this was awful , appalling , the lot , “ finish off with a “ You’re wrong “ and a nod…. “ Who taught you Unlawfuls you could call all the shots ? “
I’m balls in , the cocck , descending like a meteor
Mother Nature my savior but she keeps saying I’ve had meatier
what a meanie , hurts
but I’ve got no time for the feelings
cuz I’m reeling from the Earth’s scourge and the burns weren’t healing……
BACK PATTING and KISSING threads are like passing HAM SANDWICHES around over and over-wall
