ECU opens as a 10 point fav and the game has moved to ECU -11.5. This line is absurd, in my opinion, as I feel the Pirates should win the game by 20+.
ECU hasn't won a football game since October, 2010. A ton of that can be attributed to the absolute decimation they saw on defense after the first 5 games of last year. You might recall, they started out 5-1...but the depth on the defensive side of the football depleted quickly will losses at key positions, and a lot of them.
ECU has faced off against 2 very good football teams to start the year and has come through relatively unscathed from an injury perspective. They're battle tested and are ready to get into the conference USA schedule, a far cry from Virginia Tech and South Carolina...both of which are favorites to win their divisions. The defense played very well in both games. The special teams unit continuously put SC inside the 30 yard line with turnovers. I believe SC's average starting field position was from inside the 35 yard line. The defense played well when the special teams gave them a fighting chance, forcing a few 3 and outs against Garcia, Jeffrey, and Lattimore. Against VT, ECU held the Hokies in check for 3 quarters and the Hokies never had the lead until about 5 minutes to go in the game. I've been impressed with the defense. The offense has something to prove, and they will.
UAB is in trouble. The Pirates are starving for a win and feel that the 0-2 ranking doesn't necessarily show how good this team is. The offense has something to prove after only putting up 10 last week against VT, the lowest points total in the Ruffin McNeil era. Dominique Davis was held to his lowest total passing yards and I can guarantee you this staff and this football team are reeling with desire to rip someones effing head off on the scoreboard. They're also coming off of a bye week and are fully rested and healed. UAB is walking into a beat down at the Fick in Greenville, NC on Saturday.
Watching the film from UAB, their starting QB went down early with an injury and won't be 100% for this game. They lost 49-10 to a terrible Tulane club and things will only get uglier for them this weekend.
I'm looking for the Pirates to win the football game by at least 30 points as ECU shows that the C-USA championship runs straight through Greenville. A huge statement game puts the rest of the conference on notice.
ECU: 58
UAB: 17
