I will say it, I&#x27;m very much disappointed, I&#x27;ve had relatives in my family die of cancer and mainly due to smoking, None of them could strike up the nerve to sue a cigarette company. They smoke because they want to, Nobody forces them, Therefore you take the bad affects on the old double chin.

That&#x27;s not the issue.  The issue is that tobacco companies put addictive substances in together with tobacco to keep customers hooked.

the point of a verdict like that is not to reward the lady or compensate her. actually, it has a lot less to do with her and her family and a lot more to do with punishing a company for willfully causing death(s). once a jury decides a company willfully caused a death(s) with its product, the jury has to consider how much money the company makes and how much it is worth because it's impossible to determine an appropriate monetary penalty without knowing what the company is worth.

so, a better question would be, is this a proper penalty given rj reynolds' conduct and value.

of course, reynolds will appeal this and there is a good chance their penalty will be significantly reduced.

The companies know what they are doing..and they are playing the odds of getting prosecuted. It happens in business all the time..play the odds and hope you make more than you get sued for.

I have no sympathy for tobacco companies, they are poisoning and killing people for profit. Nothing I see as adding value or doing any good.

People are responsible to the extent they have full information. Last time I checked these companies are not disclosing their toxic ingredients..so I say let them all go under, I dont care.

Tobacco industry lied to us from the start slowly the wranings appeared on the packs BUT we never knew the posions added in to keep us addicated to cig's

also, this happened in escambia county which is a very conservative county so i&#x27;m guessing this company was doing some bad garbage to get a verdict this high.

i doubt she&#x27;ll see that money, should see some depending on how long she lives.  but again, that verdict is very little about her and mostly about rj reynolds and their business practices.

from the verdict, if i saw it correctly, it sounds like the jury thought his life was worth $16 million.  like i said, his life and the wife had very little to do with this verdict.  if the jury found that his life and her pain and suffering were worth $16 million, that accounts for about 0.07% of the verdict.

Supposedly you are warned with those risks but I think people weren&#x27;t warned about the health risks of cigarettes back in the ole days.
