That really wouldn't be an option since Mexico has incredibly restrictive immigration laws and even overstaying your visa can land you in jail.

exactly. the arizona law in many times more liberal than the federal law that is already on the books. the federal law says that any police officer can pull anyone over, or question the citizenship for any reason whatsoever. for any reason. the az law says a person has to be at least suspected of a crime of some kind to be questioned about their immigration status.
btw......very low chance that this law is overturned

Actually, that is completely false. Arizona will become the first State to allow for the police to seize the detainee on the low threshold of lawful police contact (which can be for pretty much anything). That isn't close to the Federal law's standard for police contact and obtaining identification.

Because Byron York said so?
You could at least change a couple of the words.
They don't have to be stopped and therein lies the rub. It only needs to be a lawful police encounter. Not a stop, not suspected criminal activity.

"Yo, Holmes. Where's a good place to get a taco?"
That could be a lawful police encounter, the way the thing is written. "By the way, you got ID?"

I don't know if this is the same article someone posted a couple weeks back in the politics forum, but it is using the same reporting style for sure. The article itself doesn't state anything about if crime is down with illegals, just crime in general. Yet he tries to lean the story towards it means crime is down with illegals as well. So basically this article is assuming or pushing the reader to assume that crime with illegals is down too, where that may or may not be the actual case. Personally, I think the reporter did a shitty job with the story in that regard.
