yes are 2 outside linebackers are beasts how we covered it last week was rotated our opposite corner to safety hisguy was the te. then we rotated our safety to the trips side and is guy was was the middle reciver. our other corner took the receiver to the right n our outside lb took the wide out to the right n just played man to man. you guys have a better idea? i know we will see this again just want to prepare for this and the kids to know what to do. by the way the kids are 8-9. the qb wasnt looking to run was a throwing everytime out of this set

Yah I agree in princable but why take the safety out of position. Id rotate the near side OLB and the oppo CB to the trips side leaving you a 4-3 base with a safety. If TE goes in route you have OLB on the far side with MLB to cover the back. Your best bet would be blitz 2 LBs from the same side leaving man out of this fromation .Most QBs at this level shouldnt have time to throw, nor will WRs have a chance to get open.

Texas ran that offense to perfection in 2005 with Vince Young. The guy that said Buddy Ryan's 4-6 is spot on.

The 46 defense is designed to stop the run and pressure the QB, it's not nearly as effective against a quick passing game. That'ts why they lost to the Dolphins that year, thats why they struggled with San Francisco so much.
I would zone off the trips side and plan man on man against the TE, probably with one of my linebackers because I would want a defender to match up size wise with the TE.
The 46 defense essentially puts 8 men in the box and leaves the corners on an island with the free saftey as a robber. You're going to get some big plays against you if one of your kids misses their assignment, and they're 9..so they will.
At that age..you want the QB to have to make decisons. They've got 4 players going out so there is only 6 to block. However, since they are 9, i don't think there is going to be many deep passes so your rush isn't going to get their in time, especially if they are doing shotgun. Cover 2 press is probably the easiest for your kids to understand because they don't have to worry about following the wrong receiver or getting picked off. Oh and I'd blitz one of the linebackers on every play from a different position, just so the QB feels like he's under pressure, even if you don't get there. I always like my chances making a 9 year old having to make a lot of good plays..you just don't want to give up the big ones.

That's exactly why the 4-6 will work... at 9 years old they are going to run more than pass no matter what formation the offense is in. Put pressure on the qb and he takes off running.
