It's been a week, and done so deliberately, before adding my closing/final comments on this years derby.
First and foremost, congratulations?? to the connections of Mystik Dan for winning the 150th running of the run for the roses. It was, finally, reported he will be trying the Preakness Stakes. Although he was not wagered by me, he did qualify as a horse to make my short list. I have a budget and, unlike a lot of people, I stick with it. I lost money on this race, it happens, but to me it's just one race of the thousand plus I wager upon yearly.
What I saw earlier in the week, had me move a couple horses up. For those wondering, they were and are the two Japanese horses. What "sold me/put me over the edge" was on Oaks day a T O horse ran extremely well the last half of the race, I even commented about it in another person's thread, that he ran well/very well. Those two finished third and fifth respectively.
I have watched the replay of the race, in particular the turn for home from the head on shot and have to wonder why wasn't their an inquiry? Clearly the Chad Brown horse had several bumps with Forever Young and Joel Rosario was seen interfering with the Japanese racer. There was more bumping and other fouls in this race then when Chester House was awarded the win via disqualification a few years ago. Rosario was fined a poultry amount for his involvement.
Baffert has entered in the Preakness and the word I'm hearing is "going for this race" due to, in his mind, the suspension from Churchill. To me, way to early to determine what type of wager(s) for next Saturday, let alone that race.
