We have 2 scratches in both divisions of the derby. Nothing huge...Race 11 scratch # 6 Shooters Shoot & #7 Wrecking Crew; Race 13 scratch #2 Saratogian & #8 fast Enough.
Nice to see the purses have convinced Johnny V & Javier to come back to racing.
Both Cali speed-balls look like the ones to beat in Charlatan & Nadal. I think Nadal has the better chance of getting beat. Charlatan has won both races by a combined total of 16 lenghts. But hey..he's a young colt traveling across the country.
In the 2nd division former Detroit Tiger Victor Martinez owns # 3 King Guillermo. He all of a sudden woke up & won the Tampa Bay Derby @ 49-1. It's a nice story but I don't think he should be 3-1.
I haven't totally capped the big races on the card but the under-card has plenty of opportunities to make a few bucks. Some nice MSW's with excellent breeding with some older horses makes it a good smorgasbord of racing.
If you plan to play Gulfstream there are a few nice turf races to check out. No rain around but it is Florida so what do I know.
It's not the Derby we all wanted but I already have a cooler of Heineken chilling on the patio & it will be a great day. Say a quick prayer for all & try to escape for a few hours tomorrow.

Oak R10....#11 Rushie ran 2nd by 10 lenghts to Charlatan. i bet #7 Candy Tycoon got banged around in his last vs. Tiz A Law but ran a nice 2nd in the Fountain of Youth. #10 Prodigious won his last & Flavien Prat has been real quiet. Finally #8 Katzarelli won his last @ 20-1 for sneaky trainer Tom Amoss.

Ran 2nd & 3rd but couldn't beat Irad on the chalk/
At Oaklawn, Charlatan look like a beautiful colt & I'm just going to him
But in the finale @ GP, I have a sleeper...I think.
#8 Little Code is owned by Clark Brewster who is one of Steve Asmussen's biggest client but this one is trained by Bobby Hess Jr & attracts Luis Saez to ride. He comes in from Sam Houston & ran a closing 3rd which isn't exactly great. But the owner has shipped him to GP for this race. I think that's odd.
