Friday BC Races

Nothing will be easy but let's take a couple of swings...

Race 1 I broke it down to 3 colts & landed on #9 Saffa's Day (ML 7/2). He won his only try by 5 at this 6.5F distance but wasn't heavily bet going off @ 5-1. Combinations are big to me in racing & I like Santana, my nemesis Asmussen & owner Clark Brewster. I met both Asmussen & Brewster at the BC races @ Lone Star in 2004. I also met Teri Hatcher (braless) in the VIP buffet line. If this one doesn't fire, I also will be playing #8 Awesome Gerry with Tyler/Saffie Joseph who has won both tries & he should like the extra half furlong. I'll finish my doubles with #1 Highly Motivated who closed to win at this distance for Javier & Chad Brown.

Race 2 was tougher to cap. I ended with 4 for my 2nd half of the early double in the big field of 14. Loved the way #9 The Grass Is Blue (4-1) closed in her last race at this distance to win for Brown. Tyler comes off here for Saez but he jumps on #14 California Lily (9/2)  in here for another combo I like which is Tyler/Casse/Barber.  She won her only try extending her lead the further she went. #12 Kela's Turn (10-1) has won both her races for a little know trainer Henry Gullory, Jr @ Prairie Meadows & he adds Robby Alvarado who is 0 for 23 @ the Keenland meet. I know this is a stretch but why is she here? #2 Off We Go won her last over this track. Tyler got off this one because of his commitment to Casse but trainer Tom Amoss picked up Luis Saez who is winning @ 41% at the meet.  I heard Amoss interviewed after Saez won on one of his horses & he was beaming about how Luis listens to instructions, gets out of the gate quickly, doesn't get himself into traffic issues & doesn't abuse his whip.

My Play: DD 981 with 2-9-12-14  

Race 3 I like #13 Don Juan Kitten (ML 6-1) out of Kitten's Joy for owner Kenneth/Sarah Ramsey. Flavian Prat will be onboard for the 1st time & I like him on big racing days. This one is 6 of 7 ITM winning 3 including his last. He has a new trainer in Mike Maker which is fine with me. His last race was a hard fought win, so beware. #2 No Word (ML 5-1) has regular jock Jose Ortiz for Pletcher. He likes to stay off the pace & close into the speed. #4 Angelus Warrior (15-1) is purely an exotic play as he seems to like 2nd place (4 times in 8 races) rather than win. #6 Fancy Liquor has won 2 in a row & has won 3 of 6. I like jockey Florent Geroux who rides for Maker. This one seems to have learned from past mistakes (spooked by a shadow & staying in her lane) & has banked 460k. #10 Reconvene (ML 8-1) interests me because of her closing style & this is Bravo's only BC mount. He made a big move to finish 3rd to #13 & won the previous race with another big closing move. #11 Mo Ready has the breeding (Uncle Mo) but tired in his last finishing 3rd to #2. Irad rides him for the first time for Pletcher, so you have to give him a good look. This will be a fun race to play with a number of possibilities.

My Play: WP #10; ex wheel 10/all; tri box 10-13-2-6-4.

WPS # 9 Order of Australia...this play is purely a hunch that Aidan O'Brien didn't ship this one to run in the undercard unless he liked him. If he runs big & screws me, oh well. I just can't not play this after talking with vet about it.  

Race 4 is a short field of 8. I like #2 Amy's Challenge (ML 5-1). She's banked 556k, has the speed with the Artie Schiller breeding & loves the 6 F distance winning 4 of 7. Really like the jock upgrade to Joe Lezcano. 

My Play: Tri key 2 with 179; DD 2 with 14-2-5-6

Race 5 I like #14 Danny California (ML 5-1). The Noda brothers came alive at the SPA & are winning @ 24%. They have connected with Manny Franco for some big winners & the post 14 doesn't concern because Manny has plenty of time to get where he wants in this 1 5/8 distance.

My Play: WP #14; ex wheel 14/all; tri key 14 with 256. In the doubles, I'm not sure yet. Trainer Wesley Ward has 4 in Race 6 & I'm not sure of the chalk #14 Golden Pal shipping in from Cali. I like the Woodbine shipper #12 Dirty Dangle who has won both tries for Casse/Barber. I'll try to figure it out tomorrow.

Good to start with a winner on #1 Highly Motivated. Once he made the turn, Javier got into him & he won going away.

Alive in the DD with 2-9-12-14

None of mine ran a lick so I don't care that my nemesis beat me. 

We are looking at a 6-11-3 very nice tri.

WOW...#3 had not won in 2 years!

Another huge tri 3-9-10.

Wesley Ward says that #14 is the best horse he's ever trained.

Ward was right. 

Golden Pal was impressive.

Race 7..I always wonder why a jock gets the boot having done nothing wrong but win 3 in a row. That's the case with #11 Gretzky the great. Ownership goes with Tyler their go to guy. #10 Ebeko has a dangerous closing style as does #6 Mutassabeg.#12 Go Athletico goes a little longer here.

Race 8..I'm looking to be beat Princess Noor and if you remember back at Saratoga I wondered why trainer Tim Hamm shipped a GP winner up to the SPA to run in the Schuylerville. I posted a thread about this & sure enough his filly won @ 19-1. He's back today.

#3 Dayoutoftheoffice is the 3rd choice on the board @ 7/2 right now. This trainer doesn't have a big stable & if you notice his workout trend, he does so with very few others on the track. I can't say I've ever seen this training style.

She ran her eyeballs out but came off the rail & Rosario slipped through.

Tough one to lose for the owners.
