Preakness Day

The scratch of First Mission gives us a 7 horse field. Evidently horses on the undercard are being checked by 2 different vets, so don't be surprised if we see some more scratches.

There are so many angles we can play & betting on a 1st time gelding is one. In the 1st race #2 Tapio fills that bill.  This guy won his 1st race, then ran 8 & got snipped. I mean there's a whole bunch of reasons for gelding but it just didn't seem fair to this guy. Anyway, he was right there until getting bumped in his last & threw in the towel to finish last. This will be his 2nd race off a 9 month stay on the bench. I'd watch the board (ML 15-1) but I'm making a WPS play based on the gelding angle & he's back in the company where he belongs IMO. It looks like Ken McPeek/Prat could have a big day. I like the cards at other tracks tomorrow. Here are some I like...

Race 3 # 7 Money Map..trainer Saffie Joseph is back home & trains this one for Ken Ramsey.

Race 4 #7 Wild Guess..I like the Luca/Lisa Lewis connection.

Race 7 #2 Most Wanted Man..Mike Maker trains & has his go to SF jock in Jaramillo.

Race 9 # 3 Lady Frijoles..There's some history here. I became acquainted (not friend) with the trainer Georgina Baxter & this is her 1st try since 2/9/22 because she ran into some problems. Her career winning 26% is damn good. Her girl has won 2 of 3 & this purely a personal play. ML is 20-1. #11 Basking is a Luca/Lisa Lewis/Peter Brant play.  

Race 12 #2 Dr.Oseran..love the mama Kitten's Joy on the turf.

BELMONT

Race 3 # 9 Healing..chased a runaway winner in his last try. He wins @ 31% & has banked almost 250K. ML 8-1 

Race 6 #6 Quick Power Nap was way way wide in her last  & still got 3rd. If she gets in, I also like 13a Mispelled Mooon.   

Race 9 # 7 My Sweet Summer..Katie Davis will be trying with this 10-1 shot.

Game effort to get dead heat for second. Not a bad start.

The gelding didn't break too well but still got a DH for 2nd @11-1.

Paid $4.30/$5.60

Weird he paid more for show than place. Good to start the day with a winner.

Don't have much more until the other tracks start.

 Yep, Saez just caught him on the chalk in his last stride. 

Don't know much about Pimlico but I'll be taking a couple of swings in the stakes. Kind of like #7 Kingfish Stevens in the 12th.

Also, it looks like storms are rolling into Maryland later today.

Race 3 #1 gets a big jock upgrade to Irad & a little more distance may be the answer for Mike Maker here. McPeek/Prat start their big day with the chalk #10. Shug & Tyler have a shot with #4.

 Typical Irad race. Let the leaders burn each other & then gobble them up. Nice play on the #5. He caught Tyler tiring on the #4. McPeek/Prat nowhere to be seen.

Race 4 if I'm not mistaken the heavy chalk #4 Arabian Lion is a little bit of a disappointment. Always heavily bet, he's only 1 for 6 lifetime.

BTW..the 1-5-4 tri for a buck paid a tidy $178 in race 3. We should have had it.

BEL Race 3 they started with 12 & now have just 4. I liked #9 Healing before @ 8-1 but can't play it here @ 8/5. 

Looked like Saez got stomped & it didn't look good for Baffert's colt.
