Once again the Daily Racing Form raised the price to $6.50 and their Saturday edition was $7.00 already. Don't the people that run the paper know that there is just not enough horseplayers who buy the paper. All the BS articles in the form can be eliminated and the writers layed off,should be the way to save money not raising the price every 8 months ,the only people that read the articles are people in the industry not the horseplayers who bet the races. Just put the PP'S in the paper and charge say $5.00 just for that not all the other bull crap articles that real horseplayers throw away!!

I agree with you that the price of the form is just too expensive but I am someone who enjoys the articles that are included in the newspaper version of the DRF. I like the various writers and track reports.
Downloading pp's online (DRF.com-available days in advance) gives you an option for accessing pp's only.

The $2 and $10 bettor is the backbone of this industry and every bit as important as "big timers" like you Gambler. So yes, the cost of the form is important and the rate at which it is increasing is alarming. Maybe $200 a month is peanuts to you but not to a lot of us.
The DRF is a necessary evil for the time being but this unabashed free market capitalism is really at fault. 5 yrs. ago or so there was a publication from Sports Eye that was every bit as good as the DRF that was assembled better and cost only $3 when the DRF was $5. Well the DRF bought out Sports Eye so they wouldn't have the competition. So you can't tell me that that's not pure greed on their part and that they "need" to increase the cost. Would love to see someone else come in and compete but unfortunately risk averse investors are unlikely to get involved in what has been labeled as a dying sport and if they did the DRF would probably just buy them out again. Shame.
I do like the articles but a a lot of people could do without them. So why not put out a separate publication, maybe a magazine, that could be purchased weekly for those of us that are interested.

Even if you had the cash to compete you would go belly up nas horse racing has been and is a dying industry that would be dead now if not for all the slot parlors. And I am a racing fan but a realist.

Agree King. Who in their right mind is going to pay $7 for one lousy racing form. Come on drf, wake up. Bris and twinspires is where it is at. Better PPs too.

Seems kinda funny how most girl about the $7 cost of an investment tool (DRF) but would gladly pay the same $7 for a cup of coffee @ Starbucks or some other rip off joint.

I worked for DRF for 10 years. Lost my job, as did 99% of the staff, when the paper was bought and moved from Arizona to New York. I knew the people that wrote the articles, handicapped, and I was one of them.
Haven't purchased the paper in 5 years. I don't consider the non pps useless to the everyday player...consider that 'stuff' a luxury. I download my past performances from BRIS at a buck a card, and that's enough for me.
And I could tell you some stories about the 'knowledgable' handicappers...many of whom have no idea what a horse even looks like.
