Saturday Racing

Both Oaklawn & Gulfstream have great cards with plenty of stake races. Haven't been to the Florida Derby in about 4 years. It has become so easy to sit at home & play online with my own cold Heineken, munchies and clean bathrooms. Play as many races as I want from my recliner. I'll be capping both tracks tomorrow & will share anything that jumps out at me at first glance. I do have a play @ Tampa Bay that I can share right now.

Race 9 #1 Brewmeister ML 5-1...it will be his 2nd race off a layoff & jockey Morales needs to keep him a little closer to the pace because he's going a half furlong shorter for trainer Lisa Lewis. What I also like is that owner Peter Brant gives her a few horses to train & he wins at a 38% clip as well as 76% ITM (in the money). Anyway......

Jose Lezcano, Johnny V & Flavian Prat are headed to Oaklawn while all the GP jockey's are staying home, Surprisingly, Mike Smith doesn't have a ride at either of these tracks & is back in Cali.

Should be a fun Saturday...

Paco Lopez comes off his suspension for reckless riding causing a spill & has mounts in the 9th, 11th & 13th @ Gulfstream tomorrow.

GP Race 10 #4 Weyburn has been away for 6 months & Brian Walsh takes over the training from Jim Jerkens.

What caught my eye was this colt ran a solid 2nd to Mandaloun in the TVG Pegasus Stakes June 13 last year @ Monmouth. He had the lead but was beaten by a neck in a 1 1/16th race. To refresh your memory, Mandaloun has banked over 2 million & ran 2nd to Medina Spirit in the 21 Derby.

He's going 7F tomorrow & the ML is 10-1 in a wide open race IMO. Don't think we will get that price.

Jose Lezcano comes in from the BIGA to land 11 mounts for my nemesis Steve Asmussen. His go to jock Ricardo Santana gets to ride 2. Santana has 6 other mounts on the card but the move to Lezcano on such a big day with big purses makes me wonder how come.

Race 5 there is an interesting jockey change made by Bill Mott with the chalk #2 Frank's Rockette. The only 2 jocks to ride this girl in her last 10 races have been Junior Alvarado, who is staying @ GP, and Florent Geroux who is at Oaklawn.

Mott chooses Flavian Prat instead of Geroux who doesn't have a mount in this race. This mare has banked 888k but hasn't won in 8 months & maybe Mott believes a change is warranted.

Geroux also got bounced off for James Graham by Tom Amoss on #5 Li'l Tootsie in her last try ran 3rd to #4 Acting Out & #6 Joy's Rocket.

It's not a great betting race but should be fun to watch. 

I know Maiden to stake is generally not a good idea especially when the horse lacks seasoning but I like Charge It in the Florida Derby.  I'll be betting him to hit the board.

 Charge It is out of Tapit & will love the extra 1/16th distance. Saez should be able to get the lead from Post 6 like he did from post 10 in his last race. I like his chances as well along with #7 White Abarrio who ran away from #3 Simplification in his last race. #1 Strike Hard has been running with these guys & I think his 20-1 ML is out of whack. 

Can't play every race but I do like a few tomorrow like that one @ Tampa Bay. Hope we can make some money tomorrow.

Passing on the first 2 @ GP. The 2nd race #12 Famous Gent has been claimed in 4 of his last 5 races. I do like #5 Mai Ty One a little .

Bad news....we will have rain later this afternoon arriving around 3 pm.

 Love watching my grandsons play baseball as well. Enjoy talking to them after the game & always encouraging them. My only concern is those aluminum bats because one pitches & the ball flies off the bat.

GP Race 3 #2 Harajuku has just missed 2 in a row with Junior losing to #7 Family Way in her last. But I'm going with #6 Beautiful Lover for Clement/Rosario,

It's a short 6 filly field, so a small Win play on #6.

Race 4 is a nice MSW on the Tapeta (synthetic) track. #1gscratched. #2 is a beaten favorite in his last for Pletcher. #3 had trouble at the gate in both tries; #4 is a first timer; #5 ran 2nd  for Pletcher on his 1st try; #6 scratched; #7 ran 4th in his 1st try for Shug; #8 just missed in his 1st try @ Woodbine; #9 was a well bet 5th for Chad Brown in his only try.

Boxing 5-7-8

Looks like James Graham is off his mounts @ Oaklawn today.

Race 4 ran 5-8-2-7; got the chalky exacta & came up short on the tri.

GP Race 5 #1 ran 2nd in his last; #2 won his last as the fav; #3 has a 4-1-2-0 turf record for trainer Danny Gargan who is winning @30%; #4 first try on turf; #5 has won 1 of 3 on the turf for George Weaver; #6 is 0 for 5; #7 is 4-1-2-0 on the turf with sneaky good trainer Jorge Abreu; #8 hs won 3 of 6 on turf but was the beaten fav in his last.

Saez jumps off #3 to #8 & Irad picks up the mount on #3. Javier stays on #2 for Shug & loses his mount on #4 to Rosario for Bill Mott. Tyler picks up the mount on #7 as Jose Ortiz stays on #5. So where do we go...

Tri key 3 with 2578

OAK Race 2 has a first timer in #7 Speed Bias out of Uncle M/o for Brad Cox/Florent Geroux & got hammered down to 9/5. early money can be smart money. #8 is also a first timer for the Willis Horton Stable who were partners with Winchell (the donut man) Racing that primarily used Asmussen. Jon Court gets up for Dallas Stewart #2 goes a furlong shorter which should make him competitive.

Boxing 2-7-8 

Wow...#3 @ GP bounced & #7 @ OAK closed for 4th. 

#2 wins @ 10-1 @ OAK.

GP Race 6 is a no play as #4 Fearless looks to be too good here.

GP Race 7 #2 Grand Avenue Girl will be the one to catch & if ?Jaramillo gets the lead this filly will be tough but I don't know if she'll get the distance. Javier on #3 Stolen ?holiday for Shug will have to decide early whether to go with #2 or not. #4 Crystal Cliffs has been away 9 months but attracts Tyler to ride. #5 Stunning Princess has been knocking on the door at this distance with a 6-0-3-2 record. #6 Designed by Kitten is out of Kittens Joy & she made a nice closing move @ %F in her last. She's been claimed 3 times in a row but Dale Romans moves her into this stake race. #7 Sugar Fix has won 10 of 25 for leading jock Saez & leading trainer Saffie Joseph. #8 II Malocchio is getting her 2nd try after shipping in from Woodbine for trainer Martin Drexler. Tough tough race..but I think Irad makes the difference on #5 Stunning Princess

OAK Race 4 #1 ran 5th to #3 & #5 in her last; #2 Prat gets up after this one finished 3rd off a 8 month layoff; #3 like Oaklawn going 11-3-1-4 & was 2nd in his lst; #4 shortens up for the dangerous Cohen/Diodoro combination with this one winning 9 of25; #5 has banked 700k gets Johnny V; #6 hasn't won since last March; ran 6th to #3 & #5 in her last. #8 has won 2 of his last 3 but they were both on muddy tracks. I'm thinking Prat came east to make some money.

GP Race 8 is a crapshoot with a bunch of 1st timers but I thiunk its time for a Pletcher/Repole/Irad winner.

Riding the 7 in Florida Derby with a future at 22-1 Tougher field then the Holy Bull but think he will like the added distance. 

What cha thinking about the filly in thee Arkansas Derby? Looking hard at the 10?
