    Gamble.

I did not see the Wuhan Virus affecting the economy or market like a lot of folks predicted — and I like to think I have been very right, thus far.

Trump flat-out put the economy in position to boom and it did.  I advised many folks along the way to take advantage of it and it is still panning out.

Now, that is subject to change.  As you have mentioned Biden and his ilk will for sure stall the economy.  Especially, should the Left gain control of the Senate.

However, I do not know why so many economists put such an emphasis on the Wuhan Effect.  I just never saw it being that big of a factor.  The economy had too many factors in place to prevent holding it back.

It is like a racehorse when the jockey is trying to restrain it.  Right now the economy is doing its thing despite the Left and the Media pushing the Wuhan Virus nonstop.

It can be argued the market is over-valued; it can be argued the market has been propped up; it can be argued the market has been pushed while neglecting other things.  What cannot be argued at all is that this has been the best market we have seen in a very long time, maybe ever.  We may not see this sort of market for a couple of more generations.

The market is far too complex and dynamic for this to have stifled it completely.  The market is not based on that sort of thing.

Sure, it was due a correction and maybe the Virus helped bring that on.  But look how quickly it recovered even while lockdowns were still in effect, etc.  Basically, it just put everything on sale and created buying opportunities.

Now if the policies and other things that helped jumpstart the economy are changed — sure, we will have a whole different set of market dynamics then.  But the virus and potential vaccines have had very minimal influence, I think.  That sort of thing is not what runs the market.  Especially, when most folks see the Left and the Media being irrational about the Virus.

    My Portfolio Now:

Total Cash Starting Amount: $2500 CAD converted to $1868.88 US

    Oct 27th 100 IGT bought@$9.32 total spent $941.95       Nov. 18th 100 IGT sold@$12.18 total received $1208.02

    Oct 30th 5 SQ bought@$156.8 total spent $793.95

    Nov 20th 37 SBE bought@$26.5 total spent $990.45        Nov. 23rd 37 SBE sold@$35.1 total received $1288.72

    Nov 25th 15 XPEV bought@$63.45 total spent $961.70

XPEV is a Chinese EV company that IPO back in late Aug this year and the stock has ran up a ridiculous huge amount in a short period and now has a slight pullback so I decided to jumped on, seems like almost anything EV related is crazy hot right now, I told myself to wait for 9-11% more of a pullback before jumping in but for some reason I got undisciplined & bought the stock higher than I really wanted, I guess I was having fomo (fear of missing out) if the stock start running up again since this Chinese EV company are really hot lately.  I got a bad feeling being undisciplined by buying too soon I will be paying the price on this cause I think it will continue going down short term and I will have to end up holding to this stock a lot longer than I want to make my money.

    Remaining Overall Cash: $677.57 USD

@gambleholic63 where I live most brokerage firms charges roughly $10 commissions unless you have a big amount of money then the commissions will be reduced.  Btw Intel is doing a little bit better which I anticipated and think it will be back above $50 soon sometimes before year ends and I suggested to you to buy a bit more of the stock I believe back when it was around $45-46 range and if it dipped 5-6% to buy more again, but it never dipped 5-6% from that range and told you to sell once it gets to $50ish to lock in 12-15% profit.  I really do think that $50ish will come soon before year ends and you would have been able to lock some shares you bought not long ago for that 12-15% gain and just keep the rest of your shares you bought really cheap years ago.

I have 300 shares that I have been holding since $21 bucks in 2013. I didn't add any recently. I'm not a big trader, although I do have nearly 200k burning a hole in my pocket that I am itching to put in something. It tested $53 on Friday. I'm not adding to this position regardless of what happens. Diversification is the key to success. Keep that in mind with your investing strategy.

One final note, if you are paying $10 per trade (you are not in the USA is my guess), then you should limit your trades to 10 a year at THE MOST. Otherwise, your small starting stake and small share lots are going to kill your returns. Honestly, with your stack (poker term), I would just put you 100% in the SPY and never touch it.

    @Raiders22

Look at Intel now, I should’ve invested about 3 months ago everything seems to be going really good and now they will have a good CEO now starting soon in Feb.  As I expected they are a big blue chip company that will eventually turn things around, just didn’t expect the stock to turn around this fast though.  The new CEO definitely has all the credentials to take company to new heights looking like.  Gambleholic63 you are going to be happy now with your investment in Intel.

Yes. They have made a little run.

But most of the things I mentioned before are still issues.

For example, look at the competition’s performance against INTC performance.  Yes, the last 1M is great.

But look at the last 6M or last 1Y.

You can argue that they have no where to go but up.  This could be true.  But they have to work their issues out.

So, the question is would you rather have your money in them or in one of their competitors that already have their issues resolved?

I never root against anyone when they invest; I will always root for them.

So, if you get onboard I will wish you very well.  They just are not for me...at this time.

Interestingly enough, there was a very good, detailed article about this that came out this week.  I will post some of the excerpts.  But there was a lot of good information in there.  Granted, the guy is not bullish on them either — so he may be biased.  But he presents his side very well with good detail.

    Summary

    • Intel delivered a stellar Q4 beat far surpassing expectations. While this is a positive, it's almost entirely a statement about the current COVID-19 stay-at-home macro.
    • Looking deeper, Intel's challenges remain with the company underperforming peer AMD.
    • New CEO strategy keeps Intel on a troubled path. This is a bad news for Intel and good news for AMD and TSMC.
    • This idea was discussed in more depth with members of my private investing community, Beyond The Hype.

delivered blowout earnings yet again due to extraordinarily strong macro - mainly driven by COVID-related PC demand.

While the EPS beat was mainly due to strong operational performance, it also benefited from ICAP portfolio gains.

While the company delivered a beat, each one of the company's business units, except for the Client Computing Group and Mobileye, shrunk compared to last year

This is the first time in many years that Intel cited "competitive environment," i.e. AMD, as the primary reason for the deteriorating results.

This situation is unlikely to reverse soon as the newly-released Ice Lake server solutions are not competitive, and the next generation Sapphire Rapids solution has only now begun sampling broadly. Intel's commentary indicates that volume shipments of Sapphire Rapids will be an early 2022 affair. By that time, AMD should have Zen 4 in production and is likely to stay ahead of Intel.

Despite large client unit gains, Intel was able to grow CCG revenues only modestly due to deteriorating product mix (lot of low ASP Chromebook chips) and competition from AMD.

While AMD being supply limited has certainly helped Intel in Q4, it does not bode well for future. The competition with AMD is set to get worse as AMS Zen3 based products ramp.

AMD also is taking share in the desktop sector with its Zen 3 based products. Intel's competitive 10nm product, Alder Lake, has recently begun sampling and is not expected to ramp in volumes until H2. However, AMD could very well be ramping its next generation client processors by then.

In other words, Intel is now in a mode where it's perennially a generation behind AMD.

To stay in contention at the leading edge, Intel may have to rely heavily on government subsidies.

Management guided Q1 revenues to be down 12% to $17.5 B (image below). This guidance, while presented as seasonal, comes in the context of strong PC demand. We can be certain that AMD will not see such seasonality.

Outside of the strong beat which was driven by the macro and outside of Intel's control, there's little to cheer for in Intel's earnings call. The strong support for IDM model will likely not sit well with investors. The unit, ASP, margin, and market share deterioration will also cause concerns among investors.

While some investors may hold out some hope for Gelsinger, it's hard to see the stock not selling off significantly post earnings.

    @Raiders22

If I actually bought Intel back when it was in the mid $45 when we had the discussion I would have made my 30% and sold already couple weeks ago.  Now at this price no way I want to buy it, but at back when it was mid $45 I thought it was descent to buy if you were long term holder.

ROOT Jun 18'2021 $15 call. I got in at 40 cents at a timely mannered tip. But today it was still trading at 55 cents. This is going to be easy money to flip in May around earning time. Potential 500% to 1000% gain. Its the same guy who tipped me MVIS $15 call at 65 cents...this 65 cents reached 12 bucks earlier this week! Similar gain expected for ROOT.

I’m not too comfortable investing in options, I only did it on two occasions but still feel I don’t understand it all that well, will see how your tips does, I know a call option is expecting it to rise and it has to rise above the strike price the sooner that happens before the expiry the better, if it doesn’t go above the strike price by expiry date your option lose lots of value and become worthless I believe.

Not that 2 weeks shows too much.  But these are the ones I was telling you about back then,  As I was saying you want to be diversified and try to outperform the overall market.  I felt like these stocks would do that.  I was right on 4 quite nicely, so far.  I was wrong on the other 3 -- but they are not that bad.  But the point was INTC alone was not the correct choice to do this, by itself.

    November     11th          24th       Return

Still happy with the good ones of course; still holding out hope for the laggards.  Not much of my assessment has changed on any of them.   Even though I strongly considered dropping Intel it has turned around somewhat.

At any rate -- my point at the time was there were good stocks that for sure could beat the indices.  I was not as big as you were on Intel at the time.

The market itself has been decent since that time -- but lately has flattened somewhat.  But if you pick and choose you can still beat the market if that is your goal.

    Chauster,

With the HUGE competition amongst online brokerages, are you using a commission free brokerage? Most brokerages are doing that now. They make money off of your sitting account balance and lending your shares to short sellers at a daily interest rate..

You'd be crazy to be paying ANYTHING for a "normal" stock trade unless the brokerage just has some unique research tools for you or are promising you something else that no other brokerage has.

I, myself, just bought 204 shares of VOD (Vodaphone) a week ago at $18.50 and will be holding it for at least a year.....

Well obviously it’s better to diversify generally but like I said I didn’t have much money to start with and to spread my money too thin I would get killed by commissions, I think I did pretty good, I started my portfolio with $1868.88 USD and ended with $3104.41 USD, I’ve made 66.1% if my math is correct since I started so basically less than 6 months.  Had I bought Intel I think I would have done good and sold it already.
