Also, how much cash we need for controlling interest in GM?

Two billion ought to get it.

Are they gonna get bailed out?

Good luck Vanzack.  Were you completely out of the market before this in all cash in retirement account?

Unbelievably, and quite by accident (totally by accident) - I have only about half of my 401K in equities.

I am almost ashamed to admit this, but I havent checked my 401K account for about 5 years until about 2 months ago.  I had a 10 year working career from 1990 to about 2000 where I put money in to 401K, but just left it alone.

I now have a self employed 401K (because I file as a professional gambler schedule C) - I am allowed to put in enormous amounts (up to about 45K per year) to my 401K.  I did it last year, but it automatically invested it in my set profile which was probably appropriate for a 65 year old.

So now I am making my 45K contribution now instead of the end of the year for this year, and am reallocating the 200K or so that is already in there in to 100% equities.

I have 25+ years.  If the market doesnt recover by then, I probably dont want to be alive anyway.

I sure hope this falling safe doesn't squish ya

I think that people thinking of going long need to heed the advice of Nathan Mayer Rothschild on market moves. "I don't try to pick tops or bottoms. I give them the 20% at the top and the 20% at the bottom. I just want the 60% in between"

dow futures up 400 this morning....good shit

I am allowed to put in enormous amounts (up to about 45K per year) to my 401K

this is the Uni-K. talk to your FA as you may be able to get your corp to match yourself for some $ as well.... you may also be able to add your wife on as an employee/consultant, pay her and have her open a special retirement account under your corporation

just remember, the fundamentals still SUCK and their were violent rallies in October 1929 just before the "Black Tuesday" collaps on Oct 29th. it's just a "run in the shorts" rally from a grossly oversold position.

a monster "dead cat bounce" BUT very tradeable.

    Van-

Look at some gold bullion.  Bullion will outperform probably everything for the next 5 years.

Rink is right, the USD is being rendered worthless cause of all these bailout packages.

Hard to make a bullish commodities call, though, cause who the hell will be able to afford them during a depression.

actually I'm looking at both IGT below $15 and LVS under $13 here as 1 to 3 year plays for my IRA. IGT has been THE gaming play since 1990 and I haven't seen it THIS cheap since back then. old man Adelson just made a major personal buy in in LVS and he's got enough $$$ that IF it got TOO cheap, I think he would go private.
