i think this rally subsides next week, i am going to sell out of a few things for sure like WYNN. But i am thinking about taking profits on a couple others in hopes I can buy them back next week when some bad news ultimately comes. what do you guys think?

Well, "the market" turns well before the economy-----both directions----so who knows?
 
Personally, I believe this latest "rally" is nothing but short covering due to the fact that negativity among the average joe USA worker was off the charts-----never seen anything like it before, the hideous, resigned pessimism that is.
 
The volume on this latest rally doesn't give confirmation.  I don't believe the big time money players (institutions and the like) participated, therefore, they will sell, take the market lower (I'm saying Dow 5800), and then pile on.

i agree clay, i sold up 80+% of my portfolio today at profit with hopes of buying it back lower in the next week or so, i think this was an artificial rally and that we still have lower to go.

Since it's only back to the levels it was at the end of Feb is this even a rally?  Coming in we were down 12/13 days for only the second time in History and when Doug Kass says he's a bull so am I until he changes his mind.  That said I put in tight trailing stops on all my positions and got stopped out on PNX, MGM, FWLT Aand HIG today all at 40-100% gains.

has anything fundamentally changed with the banks, with government, with level 3 assets, with our deficits

if not then just trade this mkt...this is a bear bounce. could go another 1000 on the dow but its not a real bull

this rally will get the little guy all worked up to get back in and then once he fully invests the shorts will come back and run it back down

Yep, Koaj is right on the money, as usual.
 
Bear market rallies are the most vicious of all------and most of this current one is smart shorts covering, but only to take money made and use it load up on the next downswing.
 
Obama doesn't know what the f he is doing----- unless he wants hyperinflation, socialism, and the complete and utter destruction of the US dollar and US country to boot.

Yep, a lot of ugly days coming sooner than later.
 
This bear is alive and hungry for more optimism to destroy.  Anyone NOT cynical of the future of the world is either naive or on drugs I wish I had.

agreed 100%, i have been telling my friends and family for months now that at some point we will have to go through hyperinflation. As for the last sentence, so true, that is why this last election was so fustrating to watch, you knew how bad he was going to screw this up but the poor outnumber the rich and as long as he was providing handouts what do they care how screwed up this country gets in the process.

at some point the handouts will stop. the unsustainable pensions will stop. social security will stop

companies and governments have promised the world but their only means to give the world is to squeeze the private sector

like he didn't inherit the WORST financial crisis since the Great Depression? you carps want to talk about "dumb ass"? just look at what was running the country the last 8 years. the most fiscally irresponsable administration since LBJ.
 
AND it was the Republican's "Regulations? WE don't NEED no stinking Regulations!!!" bullshit, which Clinton went along with, that allowed these Wall Street Weasels to rob and steal.

FTR, I despise the last 2 presidents we've had (Clinton--who left W a total mess, W--who left Obama a total mess, and Obama---who has done nothing but destroy psychology and money in 50 days of office).
 
So farking what that W was fiscally irresponsible?  Does that in itself allow this total dipshit snake oil salesman "Barack Obama" to get a pass?  Fark no it doesn't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Did you read the stimulus bill that Obama rammed down the taxpayers' throat back in mid Feb '08???  You may want to read it, and then you will see how Obama is every bit as corrupt as was W.

That just isnt accurate regarding Clinton.

Allowing banks to merge with financial firms is not what caused this.

LEVERAGE caused this fellas, nothing else.

Anyone else see the blurb today regarding where AIG spent the money?

They paid on those stupid credit swaps they sold..the leveraged insurance policies on those "assets" thats where a chunk of that cash went and goes to the real cause of the problem.

If regulators had been watching and noticed that these firms had leveraged out their ASS then we would never have seen the housing bubble and we would never be in this position. It also means GWB would have been bounced with a one-and-done though..that artificial expansion cycle got him re-elected, no doubt about it.

This had zippo to do with Clinton, that act didnt give banks the OK to leverage 40-50 to 1 versus assets, nor did it give AIG the right to issue coverage for that same and higher multiples versus assets.

This falls on the shoulders of the FED and the SEC, nobody else, most definitely not Clinton.

If Clinton's law signing (bad mistake and he gets blamed but all sides are guilty as congress passed it as a repub majority) had been the cause, then the EFFECT wouldnt have taken so long to happen..Clinton signed that in 99, yet the leverage and bubble didnt start showing until 2003.

Crude is on the move today.  Smart money jawboned it down this AM due to OPEC thing this past weekend, and then that same smart money started buying hand over fist when the negativity was peaking.
 
Got to hand it to them-------experts at liar's poker, and that is all this stuff is------one big fat lie.

Maybe not this week due to the expiration, but before this month is over, I'd look for the smart money big time players at the liar's poker table to blast the crap out of BAC, JPM, C, and GE so they can get on the train for the next ride up.
 
The smart money DID miss the mularkey rally the last 5 days in BAC, JPM, C, and GE------they won't miss the next one, which is exactly why those sharps have billions in their bank accounts.
