May stock gambling thread

I will start it off with casino stock info from the April thread....
 
just for a heads up, MGM reports earnings Monday May 4th and LVS reports Tuesday May 5th, both after the market close.

fwiw - i think retail is going to take a shit this month...not a lot of upside. inventories are down, mall owners will start to squeeze tenants for more rent, tax refund checks are all spent up

Congrats on your casino plays---well done.  I do read your posts, just don't comment on casinos cause I am always wrong.  Doesn't matter the side----I will be wrong.  Some things are just like that, period, end of story,

Agree with you that retail could take a dump the next few months as rebate checks are spent and those wise, lucky, smart, prudent and savvy enough to have the means for summer vacations this year aren't going to be buying crap at stores the next few months.  Simon Property (SPG) owns the big mall in my s--hole town, and I am sort of thinking that could maybe possibly be a potentially profitable short over the next 3-4 months or so.  No one in the parking lot----no one spending a dime.
 
I still think the overall trend "for now" of the market is more upside than downside, but that is in the late innings, for sure.  To me, the easiest and least stressful trade right now is to get long tech on pessimism andpullbacks, and then sell in to hype and hoopla-----won't make you rich, but can make a few pennies and allow you to sleep at night.

tech seems to be the only thing running with any sustainablility. people will trade up on tech devices they are using

we'll see about sanchez...i sure hope so. i dont even need a pro bowler. just give me pennington with a good arm and we can make some noise

Sprint is really turning things around.  Check out the 6-month chart.  I bought @ $1.69 in Dec., now $5.43.

Holy crap..nice going Depeche!

I wouldnt sell it with that low cost average..if things settle out they could be a nice takeover candidate, even though their business isnt going so well currently.

My lower DRYS buy is getting close to a triple, but I wont be selling either..not for a long long time.

I'm looking at the SKF. hit an all time low from when it was first started last febuary of 54.28 today. anyone think these financials are really out of the woods yet? esp with the "stress test" results to come? not to mention that the overall market is WAY short term overbought right now.

 

it's around 54.50 right now and I'm thinking of 500 or 1000 for a trade. market flips, it could move FAST.

Its a risky trade, the momentum is long now for sure, and we arent even in overbought territory.

also just shorted LVS @ 9.12 and MGM @ 8.90. MGM reports after the close today and LVS tomarrow. big up this morning looks more like another "Scare da Bear" than anything that will last and considering the move they have had, I wouldn't want to hold thru those reports. both companies are STILL going to SUCK, it's just a matter of HOW BAD.

btw, both the LVS and MGM are day trade plays because I think you get selling later today for the reasons stated.

I noticed that too..

WYNN in the 40s, kudos to those who bot in the 20s like lifemisspent and others.

34M shares on LVS....thats even more than DRYS volume.

speaking of DRYS, check out little FREE. it's thin as hell and I almost bot some @ 1.35 thursday. went to 1.50 friday and said "guess I will have to wait". 1.70 today.

Very low TCE numbers, cancelled the dividend, low coverage percentage for 2009 (53%).

They have no cash and quite a bit of debt relative to market cap and revenues.

Its a gamble but with that low market cap, if they survive they could have a nice return, but on the other hand I could see them going under this or next year if rates dont improve.

covered the LVS @ 9. kepps bouncing off that number on sell waves. holding the MGM short which look like the weaker of the two.

Here is my opinion..

I think they close the markets at lower levels than we are currently at.

Not strong enough of a view to establish a short though..

lol

If I were chasing a cheap bulker, I would choose TOPS, but there are better names like EXM or DSX or even the best DRYS which are my choices.

speaking of other DRYS alternates, grapevinekid mentioned ONAV in Hutch's https://www.covers.com/postingforum/post01/showmessage.aspx?spt=86&sub=100444013 thread. their chart looks interesting and they came off the canvas last week. it's also VERY thin with only 12 million+ out

God DAMN!!! look at NYNY. tried to go in for 10k in my IRA @ $1 a couple weeks ago and missed. was a 40 cent stock in mid march. 2.69 +0.70 today

well with everything I heard on this weekends "Nevada Week in Review" PBS show, which usually has pretty good insights on the gaming industry, I was somewhat suprised to see the gamers running today. basicll it was "the business is gonna SUCK for a LONG TIME and MGM and the rest ex for WYNN are still WAY overextended". the one thing that was interesting was that east coast operators like Penn National and Ameristar have been sniffing around the market BUT they would only buy IF they could steal something. same the Steve Wynn in regards to and MGM properties.
 
that being said, these gamers have turned into "Frankenstein Stocks" the last couple weeks. they just will NOT DIE!!! should be a traders short term "double top" in LVS and there's a huge gap to fill in MGM BUT we will see what happens,

talk about "Mr Toad's Wild Ride", I'm seeing 10 cent gap trades in MGM
 
I stopped out of MGM @ 9 and am looking for a re-entry @ 9.50 IF I can get the stock.
