I own my own business, it does well, but I don't love it, and I don't have a dream of being the "best in my business" one day. I think having that dream is crucial in life, and I am starting to think that being "the best in investing", specifically the stock market, could be something I would be interested in achieving. The reasons are many.
This is interesting, because I have no stock trading experience, but trading interests me, let's face it, its legalized gambling without having to watch some asshole brick a free throw at the end of the game. What attracts me most is that most people I know don't even discuss stocks anymore : its a dead time, its a recession, and what better time to get in than now.
So, I have an acquaintance who is a day trader here in Miami. I know he does well, and I am the kind of person who can pick up pretty much anything, not so much as through talent, but through obsessive hard work and discipline. Combine this with the fact that I am a gambler at heart and very good with numbers, and I have also always had a fascination with stocks, although just no time to dive head first into it. I am a full believer you must dive head first into any business venture, to go half way is just stupid.
If I gave up my business, I could roll out with about 100K to start with in liquid capital. My business now yields me a very nice salary, its comfortable, but most of the thrill is gone, and I do not want to do it forever.
Day trading, besides having a friend who I could talk to, interests me because it seems obsessive and very risky. I am no fool, I started a great business from scratch that is improving everyday, you can't do that by being stupid. But in order to make a solid living with a 100K bankroll, it seems day trading would be the best route because every day, you are either winning or losing, and this would be no hobby, it would be a career change.
To be honest, I know nothing about trading. So please give me your two cents on this issue, because I am very interested in the concept and believe it might fit my skill set. I do have a law degree, but again, I love research and numbers, and yes, the thrill of the action.
Clearly with a good business going, I could even wait to begin until 2010, with a clearly planned exit strategy, and time to understand the new trade, which is clearly crucial.
