Oh YA, THAT fucking story. the FACT is that Phil Gramm and the Republicans pushed through the deregulation that allowed the mortgage companies to lay off ANY risk of default on the loans they made to the Wall Street credit markets. THAT'S why all the "NINJA" and "Liar" loans were made.
that and 30 to 40 percent leverage in those markets made a collapse inevitable IF housing prices ever declined even slightly. it was the same reason for the stock market crash in 1929. excessive leverage.
and btw, Alan Greenspan keeping interest rates artificially low was also a HUGE factor.

Not trying to start a fight here, but I don't think this thread was the least bit political until you posted. Bush, Gramm, Greenspan, and Republicans for the large part are completely irrelevant at this point. You can blame whoever you want for this mess, but the only thing that matters are those with the current power, which happens to be Obama and his cronies. Personally, pushing all politics aside, I cannot think of a least qualified individual to be running things than him right now. Right now, we need someone who understands the economy, not someone who is trying to shove his left-wing, political agendas down our throats.
All the initial posts in this thread were trying to do was point out the mistakes that are currently being made right now. Can you honestly say you are happy with things right now? And saying you are happier than you were for the last 8 years because you hated Bush should be irrelevant in your current analysis. Those 8 years should be sunk costs to you. You cannot possibly tell me that you think Obama is doing a bang up job, or even an adequate job. He is singlehandely (or should I say teaming up with Pelosi and the other idiots in Congress) attempting to turn this country into a socialist nation.
Maybe it is just the fact that I am still at work at 8:30 on a Saturday evening, am in the middle of a nice 80 hour week, will be working all night tomorrow, that makes me pissed off to see what is going on. Why should I work hard, and see my tax money farmed out for all of these democratic pet projects? And should I be happy to watch my 401K dwindle into oblivion because the markets are smart enough to realize this guy doesn't have a clue?
Hope and change my a$$

What an a$$, haha. Probably going to be here tonight until the wee hours, but lucky for me we sign off tomorrow, and then it is time for me to engage in a nice 2-3 day bender, and enjoy my favorite month of the year.

I really don't have much to say to this. You sound like a bitter, whiny old man. Yes I graduated in 2002, yes I am 29 years old. I am old enough, and well-educated enough to know that as a hard-working, upper middle-class American, I am getting bent over and raped by the current administration. And for what, to watch this country turn into socialistic state?
In a time of dire economic straits, the last thing we need is for the government to start pushing a bunch of non-essential programs, and engage in wasteful spending. Alot of people have made good points about why Obama's policies are bad for the economy. Rather than the typical knee-jerk reaction people like you to seem to have anytime someone questions Obama, if you would actually think through what is going on, you might realize that this country as we used to know it, is pretty much going down the drain
