It appears that Vegas casinos have lowered the limits for Blackjack to drum up revenue but are messing with the odds by paying 6/5 BJ and allowing the dealer to hit on soft 17. see article:

I know some of you, Morrissey in particluar have recently been to Vegas so my question is this:  Are these new odds standard or are most of the qualitly casinos still offfering 3/2 and dealer stands on soft 17???

NEGAMBLER - Yes I was just there a couples of weeks ago.  Stayed at the Bellagio.  Table limits for blackjack were about 30% $10 30% $15 30% $25 10% $50 and up, which consisted of about 2 tables.  Oh ya, there was a $5 table open 24 hrs a day and it was packed.  I have been to the Bellagio many times and it was so hard to find a $15 table that you could get at.  Timeas they are a changin.  Perfect example,  I live about an hour and a half away from the Hard Rock in Fort Lauderdale.  The las time I was there, which was about 2 months ago, they had all $25 and $50 tables, and you had to wait in line just to play.  I went last night with a buddy, and ther were $5 and $10 tables!!  They were packed with people waiting to play and this was around 2 a.m.

Thanks for the response Morrisey.  Did you notice if it was 6/5 payout on BJ or anything regarding the dealer being allowed to hit on soft 17's??

I have found that in Vegas, for the most part, all dealers hit soft 17 with the exception of the $50 minimum tables and above

NEGAMBLER- I was there alittle over a month ago, and played 1 deck bj...bj payed 6/5! I was like "wtf is this?!" And the dealer said "well, it increases your odds..." The only thing it increases is how fast I lost my money. They get 1 or 2 hands in with 4-5 people at the table, so they're still cutting the deck in half.

I left those single deck shoes, and played the 4 and 6 decks. They paid the standard 3/2.

Also, I did play, not knowing it was 6/5 and it was a 6 or maybe even a 8 deck shoe at another casino during our trip.

And as far as I know, hitting a soft 17 is pretty standard. In Minnesota where I play alot, they always hit a soft 17. I can't remember an instance in Vegas, but I'm almost positive they hit it.

From what I read I think about the only place left to play single deck BJ that pays 3/2 is at The El Cortez downtown.

I simply do not play BJ anymore since they've changed the rules. I can only take so much greed.

Actually, I get pleasure in seeing these big casino corporations having money problems. Allows for better deals for the consumer and more competition to get people back.

From what I read I think about the only place left to play single deck BJ that pays 3/2 is at The El Cortez downtown.

I simply do not play BJ anymore since they've changed the rules. I can only take so much greed.

Actually, I get pleasure in seeing these big casino corporations having money problems. Allows for better deals for the consumer and more competition to get people back.

dealer hitting soft 17 is 0.2% edge for the casino.
6:5 vs 3:2 BJ payout is ~2% casino edge (note no decimal= unplayable).
You get a BJ every 20 hands...more often than most think.
Never take insurance. Always split aces & 8's.
The rules have changed so much since 1999-2001 that i only go there for a convention where i can get my co. to pay the cost. This is in contrast when i flew from Pa. every 2 months, 10 yrs ago.
LEARN BASIC STRATEGY. Takes avg intelligence 4 hrs to memorize. Then you will play at a 0.5% disadvantage the rest of your life in most games. You want an advantage...Learn to count.
The only game they will bar you from playing, therefore the only game i will play!

I quit going to the riverboat by my house about a year ago when they hit soft 17s on all floors except the higher limits.  Offer 6/5 on blackjacks OR hit soft 17s and I won't even sit down.  As far as I'm concerned, the house should offer 2/1 on blackjacks to get more people to play the crooked game.

Of course it won't be long before the casinos decide to collect on all ties so they permanently run off their customers.

The best BJ games are the Switch games at Encore, Plaza, Sahara  and Bill's.  House Edge .16%.

I was in Vegas last month and stayed at Harrah's.  Most of the BJ tables have migrated over to 6:5 on multi-deck tables there.  I asked about this shitty development and the dealer said something along the lines of "Steve Wynn approached the gaming commission to get this change pushed through".  Apparently he is of the opinion that people will still play, no matter what

Just a horrible reaction to the flailing economy.  You would think they would want to do whatever they could to attract tourists and gamblers;  instead they f**k you even worse

I believe 6:5 is the normal BJ payout on any single deck table.  I assume that is the casino's counter to your ability to bet large on the 2nd hand (before they reshuffle) if very few face cards show up on the first hand

And hitting on soft 17 is commonplace pretty much everywhere

NC1 capper, you are so right. The sports book is the place to make money. Forget BJ, you cannot win in the long run.
Become proficient at one particular sport. My area of expertise is football. I don't play any thing else.
    Look me up anytime.

Listen I always tell people my favorite casino is the gold coast and they don't get it.

In BJ double deck is the only way to go and GC has plenty of affordable ones were they actually shuffle manually.  Not like Bellagio or Mandalay or MGM were the minimum is steeper and the use the machine.

One rule change Gold Coast did do to benifit the player is NOT alllow mid deck entry.  So some fuck stick doesn't walk up in the middle of your run and stand on a 16, somehow win, then walk away.

i know this won't be popular, but what other players do has no effect in the long run. the math's been done. you only remember the times he fucks up your hand, but he helps it just as often. Most people don't know the right play anyway. No mid shoe entry is to keep card counters from entering on positive (player advantage counts)...that does not benefit this player.

we all know this is to prevent counters from entering, otherwise the casinos wouldn't prevent it.  The point is it is rude to get invloved in the middle of the deck,  just as it is very poor ettiquite to but in at the craps table while someone is in the middle of a roll.  It interupts the game and flow.

15 yrs ago when the Indians got their "White Buffalo" Casinos in Mn., i could beat the BJ tables like a drum (tom tom)!   They had zero dealers w/experience.  Now it's just like LV.  Gimme where do you live & play?  I hate Mystic.  Like Hinckley, good food too!
