Im a 21 year old student from London ontario (canada) looking to go to vegas. Obviously moneys an issue and i was wondering where to look for the best deals including flight and hotel. It doesnt matter what hotel i stay at but i would preferably like to be on the strip. I was looking at the flights from toronto and from detroit and it seems like there is a significant discount when flying from detroit. This is no problem to me to fly from detroit. Where is the best place to look for this trip?

Your best advice is to lock in a hotel online thru vegas.com or someplace similar. You can cancel up to with 24-48 prior to the date.
Now what I've found is that as the date gets closer the prices drop and the hotels scramble to fill the rooms. My last trip was a Thursday check in, by Sunday or Monday the rates dropped more than 50%. Example, Flamingo was asking $212/night, come the Monday before check in the price dropped to like $90. Paris hotel went from $275 to $150.
My advice is to book something cheap that you can get out of. Keep track of the prices, check them out again 3 days prior to your trip, then book something. Hope this helps. It worked for me.

Stratosphere, Circus Circus, and Hooters are all cheap but not the best locations on the strip. Having not been there before you should realize the strip is a couple miles long. I would recommend Imperial Palace. Cheap and location can't be beat. Right next to all the major hot spots on the strip. Also lower table limits and a younger crowd. Can't go wrong if you're looking for a cheap place in a good location.

You got a bus that stops right there and you are at the lower end of the strip but you can get to anywhere on the strip for couple $.If you need a place to sleep and somewhere to get a cab the strat will do.You can walk to the Sahara for a sportsbook (I think its a Leroys, I don"t remember if Strat has one but they do have all the tables and poker)You are living in a section called NakedCity and I use to hear shotguns at night,night quail hunts?Theres a million storys in the NakedCity don"t be one of them.The whole strip is so heavily policed its the safest place day/night.I use to walk to the Mirage 1am and I was never mugged on LasVegasBlvd. Find a cheap place and you can get anywhere from anyplace.

excalibur, tuscany ( a short $5 cab ride to the strip ), hooters same as the tuscany short cab ride, but hooters is a short walk to the monorail so thats a good option. the best would be excalibur but only if the price is right.
the stratosphere is good but the problem is its more money for cabs unless you take the bus, but i am not a fan of mass public transpotation in cities. realize that the more you save on hotels the more likely you are going to spend to get somewhere you want to go.
vegas has changed so much for the small timer. i used to love my corner with the stardust riviera and slots of fun.
saying that makes me think you should also try the rivera come to think of it!

1st trip to Vegas I would still stay towards the middle of the strip and not down by the Stratosphere or Riviera end. You'll regret the distance to all the main places.

You can get rooms at Excalibur or any similar hotel Sunday thru Thursday for $50 per night. I seriously hope you are not paying $250 per night for that dump. Go on Vegas.com and see the rates available.
