Got A Job In Vegas, Any Recommendations On Places To Live?

Got a job in Las Vegas and need to relocate. Only been there on vacation, anyone who lives or has lived in Vegas have any input on a good place to live? Checking out apartments online is cool but don't know the area or what its like in reality. Thanks for any insight.

I HIGHLY suggest you go there in person and look before you book any place.  It's not like there is a bad section and good section of town, there are bad and good parts peppered all over.  Also, you may consider living in one of the suburbs.  You're right, you won't get a good feel just looking online.

Stay on the westside..Summerlin (a Las Vegas suburb) is without doubt, one of the finest areas to reside/relocate in  Metropolitan LV .whether your seeking an apartment for rent, or a condo/home to purchase, it's all there for your inspection. Take Charleston ave westbound, that's the main drag (Red Rock resort & Casino is the center of attention) about as perfectly  planned community as you can get!  located 6 miles from the 'strip'

Thanks sports_Network, I appreciate it. 

I am more in the rent an apartment stage of my life. Just getting my feet wet into my career. Been told that definitely need a car to get around (live on the east coast, so use to public transportation). I have been reading reviews online about complexes but they are all over the place. Wednesday next week going to try and check out as many places as possible. 

sports_Network, what is the main grocery store in the area?

Are you going to have a car while you work in LasVegas? Are you working in a casino? on the Strip? There is public transportation in LasVegas but its kind of funky.You got this job without a face to face interview? There's a couple Walmart but they are situated out of the way if you don't drive.

Check out 'Camden Canyon Apartments' and btw, public transportation is just about non-exsistent in LV, bus service is very unreliable, if at all. (catching a bus is like a crapshoot here) coming to Vegas without a car would be considered 'ludicrous' to say the least......LOL

It looks like with your budget you will be staying in one of the poorer areas.  No problem, just keep your head on a swivel and expect to have your apartment or car broken into at least once.

I am not working in a casino or on the strip. I had phone and skype interviews and will be going in next week to meet face to face when I am there. 

I plan on getting a car when I move there as everyone has said there really isn't public transportation to depend on.

I plan on checking a lot of different apartments when I am out there. I would like to stick around $700-$800 for rent. I am not too sure of the areas on which are bad and are good. 

My job is on Bermuda Road. I would like to be close to the job and close to an area where I can grab food or groceries.

Move to Summerlin. Best part of town. I live right up West Charleston next to Red Rock Casino. Best area of town without a doubt.

It is, but will he be able to find a nice cheap apartment in that area?

Co-sign Summerlin but other side of town from where I think you'll be working. Are you anti-roommate? You could live pretty decent just finding one.

Not looking for a roommate. I have a couple places picked out to visit. I definitely dont want to be in a part where your car and apartment are broken into often. If it is a gated community, does that still happen often?

Focus on apartments in Green Valley area or close to the South Point casino. Those are near Bermuda Road.

Check out Copper Creek Apartments. Those are brand new and there is nice cars in the spaces. South Point is a local casino with great drink and food specials and is within walking distance. Enjoy LV. Just don't gamble the rent $. Also don't play the carnival card games! Such as 3 card poker, Ultimate TX Hold Em and etc.

Not a big table games or slot guy. Like to bet sports but rather have a roof over my head and food in my fridge than a betting ticket in my hand.

Flight delayed, didnt get in until 12:30

Had a reservation for a rental car, get there and tell me they dont have any cars left....see episode of Seinfeld

Staying at the Stratosphere, note to self never do that again. Only good thing is they bumped me up to a suite for my stay

South Point is a good place to bet sports. Sonny Vicarro's brother Jimmy is the head guy and takes care of the locals. Coast Resorts nearest one would be the Orleans also does a free play for NFL with $30,000 in weekly payouts.

If you are at Stratosphere go Downtown tonight. Start at Gold Spike, then hit Commonwealth. Fun places to drink and see chicks. Pizza Rock and Le Thai are good food spots down there. It is 1st Friday, so it will be hopping down there. Have fun!

Seconded on living in the Green Valley area. Henderson is a great Vegas suburb. I live off of Eastern near I-215 and love it here.

I met with them today and found out my actual office will be in Henderson. Still like Copper Creek the most. The drive to work would only be 9 miles.

Not a bad place.  You'll probably have a robbery or two there, but no worse than any other apartment complex in Vegas.  That is the Mexican side of town btw.
