Me and a buddy are thinking about packing up and getting the hell out of here (ohio). How is the job industry? Was thinking i could possibly get into some kind of tech school out here then maybe look for something out there.. was leaning toward something in medical (medical billing/coding, pharm tech etc..) something of the sort.. what are some other decent jobs out there? I'm 22 would it be just too much to move over yonder..any info/help would be appreciated, thanks

forgot to ask as far as apartments go and prices, keep in mind im not trying to move to the slums, would like to keep far away. Dont want to have to stare down at the ground while i walk so i dont make eye contact with the wrong "gang-banger".. enough of that tough guy, gang stuff over here in Cleveland..but also i obviously am not and cant move into the nicest part and pay 1200+ for rent..
so far after reading through some posts im hoping to get some answers from MWC.. or anyone else that will be serious about this but he seems to do the best at this subject..

unless you are going to gamble for a living why do you want to move there? If you just want to leave Ohio there plenty of other places you could go that have good job markets

Job market is awesome...especially in the medical and service industry right now. Apartments are very reasonable. You can get a real nice 2br in a great part of the city for like $900. Get yourself a bartending job or a serving fob at a good steakhouse or something union and chances are you will make that in 1 night. Been out here 8 years . Good place to be single. Have a daughter now and looking to get out but it was cool for a while. Any other questions just let me know.

yuice- i honestly couldnt tell you why vegas..i guess due to the fact i have only been out of ohio twice and each to florida for baseball so no fun or partying and vegas just seems like the "dream" place to move to for someone like me that hasnt traveled much..
father- thanks appreciate it, as for the rest. business i tried that back here and have to say i hated it. Dont get me wrong if it came down to it i would do it again to not pass up a money making opp.. i was really looking into the medical field i forgot to add x-ray tech..but like i said anything medical really, but i am up for anything that pays..i could imagine as long as i play my cards right it could be a very good place for a 22 yr old single guy..what are some nice cities to look into in the meantime?

and as far as the gambling thing goes, i would still look at the same as out here. just for fun.. that would just be a bonus that i can actually place a wager in person.. moving there would have nothing to do with gambling..

Just saw this thread today. I've been busy (No, I'm lying, truth be told I'm really trying to stay away from Covers to be honest, but that's a different story).
Vegas is great. I agree with pretty much everything FatherFeelMe said. I moved out here in my mid/late 30's and secured a job and bought a house before moving here. I'm married as well, so things are a bit different for me.
But I know lots of younger single dudes and they livin' just fine...bartending, whatever, living in some nice condos or apts. The economy is bad everywhere, but you can still find a job in Vegas.
My advice would be this, make sure you have some backup cash because you probably won't find a job right away or it won't pay very much at first. Plus, there are tons of hoops you have to jump through when you first get here, especially if you're going to work in the service industry, like waiting tables, bartending, etc. You have to obtain a sherriff's work card, a TAM card (alcohol) and a health card.
Try to line up a job before you get here, that's what I did. But I was in the professional field, so it's a little different. Plus, I flew down here three times in about a month getting everything together (I bought a house too).
As far as where to live is concerned it's simple (and this is not just my opinion, this is fact) - anywhere south of Sahara and west of I-15 or Green Valley/Henderson. There are TONS of great apartment complexes with pools, gyms, etc at reasonable prices, ie; less than 1k a month.

But I will tell ya this Gene, if I were your age and had a buddy that wanted to go to, I'd do it. But you've got to have a some cash.
You can probably secure an apt or condo via email or phone before you leave. But just have enough for several months rent as backup. And, once you get here -hit the streets fucking HARD looking for a job and get all those cards you need out of the way first.
Also, state law requires you need NV plates on your vehicles within 30 days. Registration in NV is loosely based off of your vehicles value, so be prepared for that kind of stuff as well.
