MGM RESORT FEES are illegal

MGM is in the business of using a hidden charge to their pricing.  They may advertise a room rate of $100.  But when you check in, they will also apply a "RESORT FEE" of $25, something you have no option of turning down.  Everybody pays resort fees, thus they are part of the price of the room.

Since when are hidden fees legal or ethical?  Just because they spent their ass on City Center, why should they swindle the consomer?  If you want $125 for a room, then advertise it at $125!

Stay away from these MGM properties that charge resort fees:  MGM, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, New York New York, Monte Carlo, Bellagio, Mirage and Circus Circus.

This summer by Labor Day, Cesars properties were packed, but the MGM properties were uncrowded.  It seems as though "Resort Fee" fatigue had set in.

SEND THEM A MESSAGE, STAY ELSEWHERE OR WALK AWAY WHEN YOU CHECK IN!

25 dollars is ridiculous.  Most places it is around 10.  

Plenty of places now advertise - no resort fees. Yes $25 is pretty steep.

Why does it matter if it's $10 or $25?  Whatever it is, it's false advertising!  They are making you pay for their bad business decisions.  Fight back.

It's suppose to be a 16% "tax" or "fee" so $25 is just swindling.

I went to the MGM website.  I looked at a room for $145.  They added $17.40 for tax, then stated a daily "Resort Fee" of $25 will also be tacked on and that Resort Fee will also be taxed too.

Why can't they just advertise the room at $170?  Wouldn't that be the truth?  No, by advertising the room at $145, they claim they stay more price competitive, yet everybody pays the resort fee, so it's a hidden charge!

SHAME ON MGM, SWINDLING CUSTOMERS BECAUSE THEY LOST THEIR ASS ON CITY CENTER.  FOLKS, THEY ARE MAKING YOU PAY FOR THEIR BAD BUSINESS DECISIONS.

Truth is the rooms are worth around the same as aria or cosmo, MGM is an elite casino with elite customer service, While I agree, get rid of the resort fee and list the price as a whole.

I just booked at MGM for January 4th thru January 8th
4 nights with resort fee and tax my total is 826.00
Monday the 7th is where they got me for a whopping 260 dollars
Every hotel has a steep price on that day, I guess the national championship game brings in a ton of people.

The Palms resort fee is $25 I believe.

Well folks, consumers don't like to be treated in this manner.  Cesars entertainment (and I don't work for them) doesn't practice resort fees.  They even claim on billboards that their hotels are in a "NO RESORT FEE ZONE!"

When I lived in Los Angeles and visited Las Vegas usually once a month, the costs weren't so bad.  But Vegas has shot up the price of everything!  Food used to be a loss-leader, now it's a big profit maker for the hotels.  You can't find a hamburger on the strip for less than $11.  Even bottle water is $3 a pop in most casinos,  Now think about this, it's 110 degrees outside and people are wilting, but some refuse to pay the $3.   So they get dehydrated, go take a nap or go to sleep early, leaving less time to spend money.  If the casinos were smart, they'd give the water away free.  BTW, the only drinking fountains I could find were at the Monte Carlo by Starbucks near the City Center Tram and the Venetian near the bathrooms by the sportsbook.

Because Vegas has overbuilt, overspent, they are passing the buck to the consumer.  Since I live there now, I'm looking for ways to avoid the high prices.  If you think I'm cheap, too bad, others appreicate my advice.

PS.  there are illegal vendors selling bottled water on the bridges crossing vegas blvd usually for a buck.

If you check out prices for ceasers//Paris/Planet hollywood

You will see that even without a resort fee, the price is the same as MGM Grand or Mandaley Bay with a resort fee.
Only difference is they dont call it a resort fee, so in reality they are the true scam, not MGM Grand, but explaining that to a vegetable like you in nearly impossible so Ill stop.

Wow, you continue to mention all the negative, so stop visiting LV if you have such an issue with it. The water vendors are doing it illegal, most of them are that is, but the cops do check the areas. They write tickets and force the sellers to leave. The cops have better things to do but typically check the areas during the morning (less hot). It's not just them, it's also the people asking for money, and playing music.

No kidding holy cow, now your worried about water.  I bought water for $1 from those illegal vendors and it tasted phenominal.  Or when I wasnt gambling I asked for a water and it was given to me in TI.  I then reached into my pocket and gave a handful of change at least a 1.50-2.00.  not 45c

MGM comps me = no resort fees.

I too buy the $1 water.  Aha, we have something in common!  But I've seen Bellagio employees come out to the bridge and tell the vendors, "you better leave guys, I just called the cops"

That makes no sense at all, you called the cops and then you're going to warn the vendors, so the cops will show up to nothing?  That is just scare tactics by the casinos to protect their $3 water.

Once again, mrquija, you generosity is much better than mine and you always point that out, over and over again just how generous you are.

most of us go to vegas on vacation, most of the charges everyone is grumbling about are so small and stupid. EVERY place that is a vacation spot is pretty much a rip off and everything is over priced. If you dont like paying dont go, its as simple as that.

If you compare the places on the strip that do not have resort fees to the places that do, You will see that the places with the resort fee are still 10 to 20 dollars cheaper per night then the places without.

Paris average daily night 170 add internet for the night and its 16 dollars more

MGM Grand 145 per night add the 25 dollars You are at 170 and Internet as well as workout facilities are included and local and toll free calls, The other places charge you for local calls.

Its basically the same, I dont even know why this is a thread here.

casears ent. makes up the no resort fees with the worst odds in craps in the whole town........really.......

MGM does have a $75 food and beverage credit when i stay there. Thats at least two drinks at centerfuge lol

Talk to a host & ask for a comp when you check out. Even If you don't get a discount this trip, you'll get an invitation in the mail for next time!

Any hotel has the right to charge whatever they want.  But do they have the right to use deceptive advertising?  The resort fees ARE NOT AN OPTION CUSTOMERS CAN CHOOSE TO PAY OR NOT CHOOSE TO PAY.  They are mandatory, therefore part of the price.

MGM has choosen to go the low road, banking on customers' apathy and stupidity.  And it has worked so far.  Their income is up.

I actually agree with Pro here. When you are comparing prices , it would be nice to know about MANDATORY FEES.
