My 1st Vegas trip recap

Just wanted to post alittle something about my 1st trip to Vegas...

Thursday-Gambled most of the day, lost half my bank roll playing 1 deck bj...not used to playing single deck, but the other tables were full. We walked to Ellis Island from TI and had the steak special for $8. Not too impressed, but for $8, it was edible. Saw the fountains at the Bellagio which made me feel good about making the trip. Even tho I lost half my bank roll, it gave me alittle boost.

Friday-Ate breakfast at Margaritaville where I had the best omelet I've ever had. The French Quarter was the name .  Later on went to eat at the MGM steakhouse and paid $85 for a 10oz fillet, 4 pieces of asparagus, and a spoonful of mashed potatoes. Great meal, but the quantity wasn't there for the price. Then went to Tabu after we ate. Enjoyed a bottle of Belvedere vodka with mixers in the VIP lounge. Got on the dance floor and had plenty to drink. Won some money back also!

Saturday- Had breakfast at the hotel, played some craps, lost on more bj because people don't know how to play the stupid game . Took a cab to the old part of Vegas and enjoyed a cigar, and some very cheap food/drink/entertainment. Lost some more playing bj.

Sunday- Played some poker at the Venetian, then ate at some pizza at NYNY. Lost some more money there playing bj. Then bet bigger than I normally do on the basketball games...HOU +13 and BOS -3. We all know how that ended up .

Monday-Got packed up, ate breakfast at the hotel again. Left for the airport. Found out NWA would put us in a hotel for free, along with food comps, and a $300 voucher for another trip somewhere. I had Tuesday off anyway, so we took the deal. Southpoint hotel about 6 miles down off the strip. Very nice casino/hotel for the crappy location. Won a small amount back playing bj, and just called it a night.

Tuesday-Got up bright and early, and went to the airport. Only flight was to LA, THEN to Minneapolis.

Overall, the trip started shitty with losing half my bank roll the first day. Enjoyed visiting all the casinos...but really, they're all the same inside. Slots and table games left and right. You might think I suck at bj...but it doesn't help when nobody knows how to play. I know how to play! I figured I wasn't going to win, but I thought I could at least break even, or lose about half. But it just didn't work out...this time. As for next time, I plan on playing more poker, and to enjoy more of the sights and sounds. There was free live music going on everywhere, yet our group just kept walking to the next casino...and trust me, it sucks standing in a casino with only $40 in your pocket, while the rest is back in the room, and you have to ask to borrow a few hundred from your buddy.

Other than losing, it was a great time...103 degree temps, plenty of beautiful woman, and it's just crazy how different that place is to any other place I've visited. Just a constant flow of tourist walking the streets 24/7 all having a good time. I'm glad I went, and I really don't care about the money...I went there with an idea of what I was going to spend, and I spent it. It was a much needed vacation away from work and family. Now I get to go back to work, and countdown the days to my next trip!

Bense- I know man, I know everything there is to know about bj. I've learned from my mistakes when I first started to gamble, and now consider myself the best I can be, lol. But even that doesn't help sometimes. Watching people stay on a soft 17 with a 10 showing...people not hitting a soft 15 against a 6? Hitting 15 against a 6 showing...ugh, just makes me want to reach across the table and strangle them. Of course their betting the min $10, and I'm playing $25+. You might say, go to high stakes, but I like the flexibility to lower my bet when the decks cold. Just gotta find the slow times at the casino, and play then. GL with the tourney, and let us know!

Gamble- When you're at the airport...occasionally they'll ask for volunteers to fly on another flight. Our reason being was that it was 103 degrees out, and the plane couldn't leave at full capacity. So we jumped at the chance. It's the airport that takes care of all the comps. And it was a big hassle because there were lots of people wanting to stay another free night. But if you have the time, and can afford to add another day to the trip...may as well take it! It was worth it for us. We both got a $300 voucher, and we both won $200, and had our meals paid for. It also depends on which airlines you fly too I believe.

Capper-I hear ya Capper, Paradise indeed...It's kinda cool to see and feel and relate to the movies you've seen, and then you're there.
Henry-It was a good time!

Cyrax-I agree, I think I could of had more fun if I was with different people. But we'll see what happens next time!

NJDevils- I know man, there's a reason they have that place built in the middle of nowhere. It's a black hole for our money!

Cavs_lover- Good point, I had thought about it months before on how I was going to "manage" my money. Then I get there, and lose my shorts the 1st day. That def wasn't any fun. I'm going to stick to my plan next time, and try not to become rich the first day. And the part about bj...I hear ya. I've seen it both ways. Just blows my mind that these people don't know how to play, and yet they get upset when they lose. I know the odds if everyone plays the "correct" way, just wish some people would do their homework become they come and gamble.

Pitbullowner- I would say I was looking for a quick head start...then being able to coast the rest of the trip. Hopefully win right away, and then slowly give it back. Overall...good trip, and I know what to expect next time!

Morrissey- 1st of all thanks for letting me post on your countdown. Hopefully yours has a happier ending than mine. Either way, have a good time. Not sure about trip #2...maybe in October this year?

Also wanted to add...

For a souvenir, every casino we passed, I made sure to buy a $1 chip. I have 22 chips from different casinos, and I'm trying to think of a way to show them off. Any ideas? Only 22 chips keep in mind.

 

not sure how to display, but please tell me how you acquired them..did you go to teh cashiers cage and ask for a $1 chip?

Walter- It just depends, most casinos we walked into, if I saw a dealer with nobody at the table, I just walked up to them. Otherwise I waited till the end of the shoe. Others I went to the cage because it would be a smaller casino and all the tables would be full. There were also 1 or 2 dealers that said "no" and said I had to go to the cage, or buy one from a waitress. They said they get lots of people doing the same thing I did. It was fun to just create some small talk with the dealers.

Morrissey-Haha, that's funny...I suppose I could give that a try next time I hit the links. Usually it's just loose change, or my golf glove button. Hopefully you'll have a stack of green chips to bring to the cage! Only a few more days for you!
